Hailing from somewhere in Spain, Mystic & Quantum is a new label created to show stories of “adventures, magic, science” and they launch in quite auspicious fashion with an album length foray through analogue experimentation from one of England’s finest DMX Krew. One of numerous handles taken by Edward Upton, Standing Stones finds the DMX Krew sound in particularly contemplative mood across a variety of tempos and can be viewed as an extension of the approach he took on last year’s Reith Tracks LP for Rush Hour’s No Label. However whereas that release saw Upton take inspiration from his surroundings on an Austrian farm, Standing Stones draws it’s creative juices from the mysterious pillars of stone that have stood across Western Europe for centuries. The accompanying silk screened artwork – which is quite lovely – extends the theme. Whether you engage conceptually or just focus on the music, this is another rewarding set from the master DMX Krew!

The shadow is an unlit place or a signal generated by a light projection image of a body, caused by itself. Shades in the summer provide coolness and rest. In painting, a shadow gives visual and spatial depth or the perspective to an object, in the first place. The second album by J. Axel explores the musical shadow in Tech House. The Swedish producer places lightweight objects in a glistening Cosmos of Sound and projects its shadows over the entire range of musical moods, emotions and landscapes. The cloud’s shadows are flitting across the sea and protect against the dazzling sun. And it was exactly out there where our battered and sensitive, everyday-stressed souls were lost on a white beach at the Baltic Sea one afternoon in August. The album is a summery meditation, throwing romantic full moon shadows even deep in the night. Right here, music has a function, is tangible, and floods and warms our minds and bodies. J.Axel’s new album is a masterful play of shadows.

Currently riding high at the top of the UK charts with their smash hit single ‘Rather Be’, London-based dance collective Clean Bandit are thrilled to announce details of their debut album New Eyes, which will be released through Atlantic Records on June 2nd.

The album, which draws its inspiration from seminal UK dance/soul/electronic acts that broke the mould: Massive Attack, Basement Jaxx and Soul II Soul, features previous singles ‘A+E’, ‘Mozart’s House’, ‘Dust Clears’ and ‘Rather Be’ and promises to propel the quartet fully into the spotlight this year. Take tracks such as ‘Extraordinary’: an emotive house record that tugs on the heart strings whilst moving the feet in the equal measure with trademark strings, steel drums and soulful vocals of Sharna Bass transitioning us into summer with vigour. ‘Come Over (feat Stylo G)’ brings a diverse sound with its dancehall roots, exuding sunshine. ‘Up Again’, which features the ethereal vocals of Rae Morris, melts liquid drum and bass sensibilities with uplifting and euphoric melodies.

Speaking about the debut release, cellist Grace Chatto commented, “Our first album is finally here and it feels so good to draw everything together into one piece of work. The deluxe edition of the album has seven self-produced music videos and 15 songs that we’ve made together with various incredible vocalists. The title track ‘New Eyes’ was written in a special place in France called Nouailles, but no one was quite sure how to pronounce it and our manager nicknamed it as New Eyes, which stuck… It’s the most personal song on the album, so we gave the album the same title.”

New Eyes showcase the band’s trademark fusions of basslines, beats, electronica and strings with house, garage, dancehall, drum and bass and hip hop, paving the way to become the soundtrack of summer 2014. The album is underpinned by Jack’s unique and progressive dance production, which mixes together a cocktail of genres. Alongside features a cast of incredible vocalists from house diva Jess Glynne on ‘Rather Be’ to New York female rap from Lizzo on ‘New Eyes’ to Jamacian dancehall rhythms from Stylo G on ‘Come Over’ to soul belter Sharna Bass on ‘Extraordinary’ to garage legend Elisabeth Troy on ‘Hearts on Fire’ and neo soul, rap and folk courtesy of the likes of: Rae Morris, Jaevon, Love Segga, Nikki Cislyn and Eliza Shadadd.

South African rap duo Die Antwoord have revealed plans for a new album, Donker Mag, which they will release on June 3rd via Zef Records. Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er’s third studio album and follow-up to 2012′s Ten$ion, Donker Mag features their 2013 single “Cookie Thumper”, along with some of the most Die Antwoord-sounding song titles yet, like “Girl I Want 2 Eat U”, “Raging Zef Boner”, and “Rat Trap 666″.

Also included on the tracklist is “Pitbull Terrier”, which serves as our second preview of the forthcoming album. Like most songs from their catalog, it’s a blitzing track with pummeling blasts of electronics and abrasively hyper hooks. They’ve paired the track with an absolutely gross and gory music video. Directed by Ninja, the visual finds the 39-year-old emcee donning disgusting pitbull makeup and mauling innocent bystanders (one looks remarkably like Pitbull, the pop singer).
