Following The Bunker’s inaugural two releases from Leisure Muffin and Clay Wilson, the label releases its most high-profile EP to date with this three-track release from Donato Dozzy and Neel’s famed Voices From The Lake project. Following tracks for Concrete Records and Mike Parker’s Geophone label last year, the Velo Di Maya EP is Donato Dozzy and Neel’s most substantial release since their revered self-titled debut album of 2012, and contains three tracks reproduced from their favourite live segments of a performance given at the famed New York club night in 2012. One of the windy city’s most recognised exponents of Chicago house, Boo Williams, returns to the German run Chiwax label for the second time following last year’s orange Pleasant Dreams 12″. There’s no denying the tracks on this red Last Of The Past 12″ are the types that so many try to imitate; like the basic, but perfect one-two bassline of “End Of Days”, or the filter sweeps and slinky keys of “Party Time”. It was only a matter of time before the fabled New York club The Bunker set up a spin off label – indeed it’s surprising that it didn’t happen sooner. For this second release, the label has recruited newcomer Clay Wilson. “E4” is a ponderous affair, as teased out and labyrinthine as spending eight hours in the Bunker itself. Its languid groove moves from understated drones into darker, more introspective textures without missing a beat. “Socorro” is radically different both in tone and purpose: its reduced beats and breathy pads sounds like the kind of track Perlon’s Zip would drop in an early morning set. Before long though, the mood swings back to the grimy and subterranean, as “Oizumi” is powered by all-encompassing drones.

Adame originally came to prominence as a keyboard player for Underground Resistance act Galaxy 2 Galaxy, but as Day Labor shows, he deserves his own attention. “Rise & Shine” is sensuous ambience, while “Out to Get It” sees him laying down a rolling techno groove to rival DJ 3000. It’s one of many rewarding twists and turns by Adame, and he also delivers “Handed Down”, a brilliant, skewed jazz-house jam and the dubby groove of “The Grind”. However, Adame is a Detroit producer first and foremost and nothing screams the Motor City quite as loudly as the slinky metallic rhythms and sublime, shimmering melodies of “The Reason”.
