Atonement marks the third instalment of Osunlade’s on-going Offering mix series. Like the two previous instalments, it largely ignores the more organic, African-influenced side of his sound in favour of a warmer, fluid, heavily electronic deep house vibe. Yet however electronic and European the grooves, there’s still in innate soulfulness to the American producer’s selections. As a result, highlights are plentiful, from the intricate, delicate piano motifs of Roman Flugel’s “Song With Blue” and the enveloping warmth of Andrew Soul’s “Disconnected Thoughts”, to the weary, early morning glitchiness to the mix-closing “Late Night Thinking” by Estrroe.

Answer Code Request steps out of the Berghain shadows with a noirish debut album of ’90s-informed techno sound design for Ostgut Ton. ‘Til now, ACR’s made his presence felt with a small but perfectly formed haul of 12″s distinguished from the Berlin techno crowd by virtue of their UK-styled breakbeat and AI-era atmospheres. But where UK breakbeat techno might get over agitated or crazy, ACR curbs his enthusiasm with a typically stoic sort of composure indigenous to Berlin residents and their music, balancing both poles with a warm sense of Detroit melancholy, much like his label mate, Shed. There’s ten tracks on rotation, oscillating between the FIS-like hydraulics of ‘Blue Russian’ and dusky tower block synth vistas such as ‘Odyssey Sequence’ to tight breakbeat techno dreamers ‘Zenith’ and ”Haul’ thru moody MDR-style techno in ‘Status’ and the soaring, elegiac synthscape ‘Axif’ feat. Adame originally came to prominence as a keyboard player for Underground Resistance act Galaxy 2 Galaxy, but as Day Labor shows, he deserves his own attention. “Rise & Shine” is sensuous ambience, while “Out to Get It” sees him laying down a rolling techno groove to rival DJ 3000. It’s one of many rewarding twists and turns by Adame, and he also delivers “Handed Down”, a brilliant, skewed jazz-house jam and the dubby groove of “The Grind”. However, Adame is a Detroit producer first and foremost and nothing screams the Motor City quite as loudly as the slinky metallic rhythms and sublime, shimmering melodies of “The Reason”.

Acido Records is rightfully gaining something of a cult following akin to the Sex Tags crew it is vaguely affiliated with, though the Berlin based label has its own defined aesthetic approach thanks to the stewardship of founder Dynamo Dreesen. In a week where the label serves up some excellent new produce from the Dresvn pairing of Dynamo Dreesen and SVN, Acido also slip out a second round of their Soundtracks For No Film series. Heavily conceptual in tone and execution, 291out largely contributes this time with a hefty six productions of outer spatial electronics which at times sound befitting of a contemporary Kafka screen adaptation and other times eminently suitable for the dancefloor (“Automobil Club Lugano” in particular) Do check the flip which has Sequencias contributor Healing Force Project excelling with the suitably named “Opium”.

The trio of Thomas Cox, Preslav Lefterov and Adam Ratana have been busy since their first EP, The First Four on Uzuri, in 2011. Romanian duo TC Studio has previously excelled with their collaborative projects on All Inn Black, Archipel and their own eponymous imprint.
