“If there’s one thing Jonas Kopp has proven over the last decade is that he can turn his hand to just about anything. Since debuting on Pfirter’s revered MindTrip Music back in 2006, the Buenos Aires native has managed to rack up a rich and compelling discography, coursing with ease through electronic music’s various forms. From warm Chicago house through to deep, dark and driving techno on labels like Deeply Rooted House, Stroboscopic Artefacts and more, Kopp’s hypnotic and heady sentiment has remained the red thread throughout, which has allowed him to flourish as one of techno’s more liberal dance floor purveyors. More recently, for Illian Tape he strayed out of the ring entirely to deliver two billowing, orchestral-sized ambient works; proof that there’s still plenty more to come from someone already so well-versed and dexterous in his craft. It’s high time then, that Jonas Kopp should present his first full-length effort. “Beyond The Hypnosis” weaves Kopp’s discursive repertoire into a single and concise narrative, covering both familiar ground and exploring new and spellbinding territories, along with just a hint of cosmic neo-retroism that makes this a welcomed edition to the Tresor catalogue. Despite having just a single release on the label so far, “X” featuring on DJ Hell’s 2013 Kern Vol.2 compilation, Kopp has been a firm fixture at the club since 2011. Jonas Kopp is the next in line of contemporary luminaries that Tresor proudly welcomes to the fold. “Beyond The Hypnosis” is a techno album as ambiguous and unrestrained as its astrological muse. This is Kopp at his most wayfaring with titles like “Seven” and “Green Square” showing off more of the producer’s flare for spacey, subaqueous music. There is of course plenty of floor-facing material as well, delivered with less stringent functionality than we’ve seen from him before. The perverted “Tau Ceti”, for example, or the basement-dwelling single “Red Plented” have been tarnished with the same brush as this album’s more dreamier moments, setting them apart from stand-along experiments to work collectively as a symbiotic and fully-fleshed whole.”

Steve Roach & Jorge Reyes – The Ancestor Circle

5fdb8d891364

Label: Projekt
Release date: 2014
Source: WEB
Format: mp3
Quality: 320 kbps
Size: 168 MB
Genre: Electronic
Style: Ambient

Tracklist:
1. The Circle Opens 9:04
2. Memories Unsuspended 24:49
3. Espacio Escultorico 9:36
4. Spirit, Stone And Bone 4:19
5. Procession Of Ancestors 10:20
6. Temple Of Dust 15:12

Conjuring images of a primal futurism, this alchemical blending-of-sound is a ceremonial offering to the forgotten gods. The Ancestor Circle is a new tribal-ambient-electronic collaboration, the first recording from Roach & Reyes since Vine ~ Bark & Spore (Timeroom 2000). This is the lost chapter of a long soulful journey that has taken twists and turns in its unfoldment. The music feels steeped in a frothy mind-altering blend, waiting for years as the potency increased. Roach & Reyes combined their instinctual nature — developed over almost a decade of worldwide live and studio adventures — leading up to the core of what became The Ancestor Circle. It is in this circle that their sound is unearthed from deep within their primordial soundworld, where prehistory meets future-tech creating a sound impossible to carbon date.

Like the audio artifacts of a lost tribe, the studio source recordings that form this album’s foundation were uncovered in 2013 on a cryptically-marked set of tapes. Created the week before Roach & Reyes’ May 2000 concert at Tucson’s Temple of Music and Art, this is their last joint studio project as Reyes passed on to The Ancestor Circle in 2009.

Roach comments, “Jorge is still very much alive here in the circle where we always met with an unspoken language of sound constantly moving through us. As I completed this music now, adding new elements and evolving the arrangement, I could feel Jorge’s spirit listening and interacting with me in the studio, offering feedback or sometimes making his guttural sounds of agreement like he would do in the past when we were deep in the process of carving on a mix. Just as in previous magical studio and stage experiences, we are in the circle once again.”

For thousands of years, music was created to assist entrance to expanded states of consciousness, support a passage of life, birth and death and invoke the gods, spirits, and allies. While the abundance of today’s entertainment-music has lost this powerful inner core, on The Ancestor Circle it is fully reinstated. This is a new “medicine music” as it should be: a probing visceral experience with the power to illuminate and shroud in mystery, digging deep into zones hidden within the psyche. It offers a potent realm of renewal for those seeking an unfiltered, cathartic rinse-down of today’s technological, modern world; it helps hit the reset button of perception.

Rising up from a dark shroud of night to embrace life, an ancient voice chants in serpentine ecstasy only to subside and hover next to a slow realm of eternal time drawn from electronics, percussion, prehispanic flutes, ocarinas, other acoustic instruments and silence. When the sound dissolves beyond recognition, a subconscious landscape arises, whispering of faded visions painted on stone, echoing on studio walls, of times gone by and times to come. Roach & Reyes are still here bringing us messages from the infinite.

Artist Bios

Jorge Reyes took an ethno-musicological approach to music-making on 20 solo albums; released throughout the late 80s, 90s, and 00s these albums all has a special emphasis on indigenous and shamanic traditions from Reyes’ native Mexico. After years of tirelessly performing across Europe, he met Roach in the early 90s at a festival on the Canary Island of Lanzarote. Along with the Vine ~ Bark & Spore collaboration with Roach, Reyes & Roach teamed with Spanish electric guitarist Suso Saiz for two mid-90s albums from their group project, Suspended Memories (Music From The Hearts of Space 1993 & 1994). Reyes passed away on February 7, 2009.

Steve Roach is a pioneering cornerstone of ambient-atmospheric-electronic music with over 100 albums to his name. Since the early 80s, Roach has approached music like a medicine man approaching the void: engaging the challenge, uncovering new mysteries, and bringing them back to share with the world. From the expansive, time-suspending spaces reflecting his spiritual home in Arizona to the fire breathing, ethno-ambient expressions woven from all things electric and organic, Roach’s long list of groundbreaking recordings are fueled by his prolific nature and uncompromising approach.

MRSK returns to Skudge with his debut mini-LP of gnarly acid techno. For the last few years he’s really entertained us with his various offerings in Fishermen and Smell The Flesh, and not least his dynamic, swanging MRSK gear. So we’re a bit disappointed with this drily bleached out set of six rolling hardware grooves. It’s not hat they’re terrible by any means – ‘Absomnia’ is a cool bit of New Beat acid, ‘Tailor’ goes deep with the cold Northern atmospheres, ‘Mumra’ is a handy techno tool – but there’s nowt quite as wayward, bass heavy, or captivating as we’d hoped for

In their brief life so far, Parisian label Latency have attained a sense of quality over the course of their three releases that has probably resulted in a few envious glances. Records from Innerspace Halflife, Joey Anderson and Even Tuell have set the bar high, and have been complemented by equal attention to detail from an aesthetic viewpoint. A slight shift in focus for Latency is shown here with a full length album from Mura Oka, which transpires to be a long gestating project of Latency co-founder Sidney Gerard and friend Louis Vial. There is however no drop in quality, with Auftakt a wonderfully paced album of deep electronics that could quite easily fit on Workshop and one that reveals new highlights with every listen.

Helsinki – Suomi’s DJ Candle In The Wind with classic driven acid house LP on Finnish Iron Magnesium Records. Traditional ingredients such as TR-808 and Latin cousin 727, monophonic synths, african and 80’s guitars are included. Note this is NOT purist TB-303 acid house, but real acid house record with that little Finnish twist on melodies. Acid is in your head, don’t forget that.

Reagenz – The Periodic Table

Total Time: 01:16:22
Total Size: 175 mb

05 – Co 14:32
06 – Db 10:11

Few projects in electronic music have remained at the very cutting edge for as long as Reagenz, a collaboration between San Francisco-based Jonah Sharp and Heidelberg-based David Moufang. Their first self-titled album “Reagenz,” was released during a foundational moment for ambient and electronic music: 1994. At the time, Jonah’s main project was Spacetime Continuum; an early signee of seminal label Astralwerks. He was also running one of the first independent electronic music labels on the West Coast, Reflective Records, recording with the likes of Pete Namlook and Bill Laswell; while David was founding acclaimed duo Deep Space Network, starting to record solo records as Move D, entering into a fruitful collaboration with Pete Namlook, as well as running his own Source Records imprint.

Following several well-received live appearances in Japan, Reagenz was reformed in 2009 for a full-length album “Playtime” on the respected Berlin label Workshop. Since then, the project has been ongoing, touring to present live shows in both the US and Europe. There has also been a special collaborative extension of the project when Reagenz met Magic Mountain High (Moufang w/ Juju & Jordash) under the name The Mulholland Free Clinic at last year’s Unsound Festival in Krakow. Moufang, working as Move D, is now highly in demand as a DJ (last year he did one the coveted Fabric mix CDs), whilst Sharp is also busy with solo gigs and a collaborative project with DJ Spun called the Loose Control Band.

Now, twenty years after their first project, comes “The Periodic Table,” a stunning live album captured at The Bunker New York’s tenth anniversary party at Public Assembly, Brooklyn, in January 2013. This Triple LP / CD album also serves as the first full-length release from relatively new label The Bunker New York, which was launched in January 2014, so far releasing nine EPs from the likes of Atom™, Voices From The Lake, Marco Shuttle, and others. To introduce the album, Sharp notes, “I consider it a live album that captured the essence of the show. The two-and-a-half hour show was edited down to 70 minutes or so. The hard bit was selecting chunks to use.”

Recorded using a full stage of gear / all-hardware set up that included Roland TR 909, Roland TR 606, Roland JX-3P, Roland SH101, Anyware Instruments TinySizer, Nord Micro Modular, Doepfer Dark Time, Akai MPC 1000, Electro Harmonix Memory Man Delay and a Moog MidiMurf “The Periodic Table” incorporates elements of house, techno and ambient in an organic flow that few artists could replicate. Watching the two musicians on stage makes tangible the sense of decades of shared experience between them very apparent. Moufang clarifies “it is definitely about letting go and finding out where we can go as in terms of improvising (new) tracks.” Sharp concurs, “Communication comes down to hearing and feeling what’s going on at the time and trying to make the right decisions on the spot. Spontaneity plays a big part! “

Of course, this special adapt-and-move approach is not something every musician could do successfully. Sharp confirms, “it’s a challenge to play live dance music and make it work,“ whilst Moufang sees a parallel for their approach in game theory, noting “Live improvisation is always like a game of chess in a way—you follow and try to take the lead.”

Recorded with almost the same equipment they used to record their debut twenty years earlier, “The Periodic Table” is a testament to the power of live electronic music, its ability to transcend time and remain, when delivered with skill and art, one of the most powerful live music experiences possible. Far from being locked into any cul-de-sac of “dance” genre or DJ tools, “The Periodic Table” presents a living, breathing model. Free your mind and your feet will follow.

Hashman Deejay’s Future Times debut, Tangerine, was something of an overlooked gem – an exotic, melodious gem that pinned Tangerine Dream style electronics to a restless techno groove. This surprise debut album has a similarly dreamy feel, even if the techno side of his output has been tamed a little. Instead, we get a range of eyes-wide-shut compositions that variously touch on Mood Hut style deep house (“Mercury”), ultra-deep electronica (the odd beats, spacey noises and relentless chords of “Mozaic”), swinging, Max D style drum workouts (the rich bass, dubbed-out synths and loose house grooves of “184″), trip-hop style downtempo beats “Statues PF”), and thrillingly loose, new age house anthems (“Xssential-3″).
