Amen Tma is a project of ::.: and acidmilk. Spiritually a successor to Angakkut, but musically a completely different entity, it was conceived in late 2011 for the purpose of experimentation with combining composition techniques of electroacoustic music, balinese gamelan and polymetric techno.

Spanning nearly three years of work, their debut album Insect Phonetics Research yields a study in sibilant stridulation sounds, interwoven with messages preaching an ever approaching Eschaton. This material is complete with a bonus live recording alongside remixes by Sion Orgon, Loyu, Drakh, Makkatu, Rentip, &apos, RBNX and Urbanfailure, resulting in a total 90 minutes of music.

Cadenza are preparing to release their latest artist album: Ernesto Ferreyra’s El Paraiso De Las Tortugas.

Despite only releasing a single 12-inch through the label — 2009’s Siluetas — it seems Ernesto Ferreyra is very much an integral part of the Cadenza family. The Argentinian producer has been a regular fixture at the imprint’s Sunday night party, Vagabundos, at Pacha in Ibiza this year, and has regularly been entrusted by Luciano to fly the flag for the label at showcase parties across Europe. Ferreyra’s breakthrough can actually be traced back to 2005 and his side project alongside Guillaume Coutu Dumont as Chic Miniature. The duo have released music through Raum…musik, Musique Risquée and Crosstown Rebels, while Ferreyra himself has split his time between labels like Lomidhigh Organic and Cynosure.

El Paraiso De Las Tortugas, or “turtle paradise,” will, however, see the light of day through Cadenza, bringing together 12 previously unreleased tracks. Bearing in mind Ferreyra’s previous singles, work with Guillaume Coutu Dumont, and his habitation of Mexico City, Montreal, Berlin and Ibiza through the years, expect plenty of percussion and a globally sympathetic approach to timbre on
El Paraiso De Las Tortugas.

Turin based producer Yari Malaspina aka OOBE follows up last years’ Opal Tapes-released “SFTCR” cassette with a more clearly defined and uniquely digitized approach to ambient electronica.

Resting melancholy echoes onto slow rave rhythms, “Digitalisea” is a heavy, histrionic set of slow moves into Stargate-mining planetscapes and gaseous, computerized digi-psych. OOBE is deeply cosmic in all of these ultra synthetic dealings with tropes of both ambient techno and classic 90s euphoria, regenerating fragments of both into his own dense, amorphous blur of textural but rhythmic ambience that comes out somewhere between a processed and pixelated Huerco S. and crisply distorted Sci-Fi version of Actress.

“Digitalisea” investigates glitches just under the surfaces of recent distroidian and post-internet sheens as much as the hauntological distant club echos that characterized “SFTCR”. It’s hard to tell if its straight up pitch black or solar-scorched, but it’s always blissed out beneath the claustrophobia.

Having spent plenty of previous tape-spooling minutes shored up at Hospital Productions (as well as Opal Tapes, Silvox and More Records), Exoteric Continent return once more with their gritty, industrial-flavoured techno that edges more towards sonic dread than dance music. The tightly-pressed rhythms tumble out in unforgiving arrangements that lay monochrome textures on heavy and let the drum machines call the shots. There’s space of course for more contemplative production as well, but it still comes daubed in battleship grey for the darker kind of hardware head. That there is so much atmosphere and tension in the music tells you just how skilled the Barcelona-based duo are in their craft.

Ernesto Ferreyras 2010 debut album for Cadenza, the intricate and balanced El Paraíso De Las Tortugas, was something of a landmark release, not only for the Argentinian DJ and producer, but also for the minimal electronic dance scene, taking the micro-techno genre out of the clubs and into a full length listening experience. Four years on, and Ernesto has certainly lost none of the magic and spark that made his debut long player a keeper. On Some Kind Of Sign, we find the producer seriously in his element, with his production aesthetics at his peak, brimming with ideas, melodies, killer hooks and wonderfully playful percussion across the eleven tracks. Aiming to go somewhat deeper and darker than his debut album, on Some Kind Of Sign Ernesto endevours to go beyond the obvious and easily cliched elements of an electronic LP, capturing the world within the spaces, using otherworldly modulars and field recordings to take the listener to the outer reaches of the albums very heart and soul. Some Kind Of Sign is an album full of elasticated beats and liquid electronics, every track built around highly inventive drum programming and micro-samples. Album opener, Still Waiting, sets the tone with bustling, yet understated, percussion, the soaring strings unfurling at the end of each phrase. Its a long player filled with colour; Cristal Clear feels like a Middle Eastern travelogue, the track awash with an almost street scene like ambience, the purposeful percussion really transporting the listener to another space & time. Astral chugs along at almost a skanking pace, the shakers and drum fills keeping it a dancefloor piece whilst the modular synths bend and worm around the kicks. On tracks like Underwater Lies the synths rain down onto a dubbed out & sultry female vocal, whilst the propelling electro beat and huge sub-bass carve out a most enjoyable aural (subaquatic) ride. Ferreyra really shows what he is capable of in the deep melancholy of The Friend Ive Lost, the saddest of pianos riffs grips your heart and gives it a good tight crush, douses you in reverb and pins you up against epic, taut stringsreleasing you after its two short minutes to get back to the dance on Hide No More. The album closes on Beluga Dance, a riotous and infectious space ride, and a fitting end to an album that most certainly finds Ferreyra stepping up another level with his highly accomplished and polished original dance music, designed not only for the feet but for the head as well, the true hallmarks of great electronic music

Mathematics boss Jamal Moss was clearly in a confrontational mood when recording the material that makes up Eat My F*ck, a rare long player under his lesser used alias Insane Black Man with some crude titles to match the abrasive nature of the music. Arriving on the + + + offshoot of Mathematics that’s home to some of his most challenging works, the twelve tracks here will please and provoke in equal measures. As you might guess, Eat My F*ck is largely an aggressively ragged affair – the opening title track sounds like corrosive metals exploding – though it does occasionally recede into calmer territory (“Karma Sutra” and “Auto-luminescent Sex” stand out in this regard) whilst there are also moments comparable to the 80s primitive electronics of CHBB/DAF such as “Paradoxia” and “Psychomentrum”.

Under the Population One codename, Detroit citizen,Terrence Dixon, has realised some of his most vivid, esoteric portals to the Motor City mindset. ‘Theater Of A Confused Mind’ is Dixon’s 2nd album in this mode and marks a timely return to Rush Hour twenty years after his debut album, ‘Unknown Black Shapes’, and the ‘Hippnotic Culture’ 2LP, whose ‘Rush Hour’ track inspired our company’s name.

In both the literal and figurative sense of the album’s title – theatre as a space for performance or an operating table, and equally in terms of psychogeography – ‘Theater Of A Confused Mind’ plays out an affected Afro-futurist narrative over eight tracks of haunting and furtive sci-fi techno. It’s riddled with cryptic connotation, systemic from the track titles to its deft, subtle mix down, all drawing upon the city’s emotions, industrial architextures and post-industrial panoramas to better express its sense of soul.

Between opener ‘Out Of Control’, where Dixon is the voice-in-Detroit’s-head, a dark interpreter on a dérive whispering to himself “Detroit, Out of Control/As I Walk Through The Mists Of Detroit/And You Don’t Know What We Be”, and through to the mind-blowing sci-fi projections of closer ‘All Of A Sudden’, it renders a unique perception of Detroit’s enduring export. Tracing circuitry like grid-iron avenues, Dixon deviates down back alleys, through warehouses and across mental space, divining the ghosts of jazz in the coiled double bass of ‘For Only You’, or long lost SOS transmissions in the tribal patterns of ‘Code Urgent’, whilst the prickling electro of ‘Battle For Space’ condenses that fractured flux at the album’s core, and the kaotic harmonies of ‘My Own Shadow’ encapsulate a Kafkaseque sense of raving paranoia.

In light of recent news that Terrence is set to retire from making music, the already incredible ‘Theater Of A Confused Mind’ is imparted with an ever more impending sense of gravity. It’s little short of Population One’s magnum opus, and should be treated with due respect.

Hot on the heels of Alkalino’s From The Vaults EP comes a second selection of forgotten and overlooked gems from the Portuguese producer’s seemingly bulging archives. After a string of mixtapes that announced them to the world, US duo 18+ follow up a 7″ single for Houndstooth with their debut album, weaving an enchanting tale of melancholic electronica across 14 rapid fire tracks. The production comes on simple and direct, using certain trap influences in the downtempo beats to ensure the focus is on the vocalists. The interplay between the boy-girl pair works a treat, adding to the moody sensuality of the music. Still they manage to keep a certain androgynous iciness in the mix, like all dark-tinged electronic music needs to cast its enchanting spell.
