For this installment on THEMAs digital series we are happy to welcome back Martin Bellomo for another round of warm, funky and slightly off-kilter house. Hailing from down south in Cordoba, Argentina, Martin and his Rationalism imprint have gained quite a reputation for deeply creative and infectious grooves. His latest comes as no exception, packing 5 tracks full of lush dance floor material that beg to be played out everywhere from cozy loft parties to headphone-filled subway rides. Starting on a light, introspective note comes M005 a track abounding with texturally rich percussion samples and swirling harmonies. The samples were so rich we felt it deserved a proper remix, and who better to deliver than Bellomos co-conspirator and label mate Pedro DAlessandro. Reimagining the original with a more driving groove and thick organ stabs, DAlessandros Remix managed to manipulate the samples in a frantic, left-field fashion that very much suits us here in Brooklyn. El Matiz takes things into a bit darker territory with its rumbling bass lines and breathy synthwork. The subtleties of Bellomos rhythms here shine as a paradigm of well-crafted house and are sure to work the floor late into the night. The title track, Kopfkino, sticks to a bare-bones approach, using hazy hi-hat patterns and flavorful pads to color its evolving canvas. Things then end on a vocal note with Me Deepsta, a raw and sexy track that pays tribute to the house music of yore while still sounding fresh and invigorating. It will undoubtedly stir the innermost realms of human desire with the way it moans and groans through a dense shuffle of drum machine madness. Text by: Nathan Levenson

Heiko Laux – ReTelevised Re:Vision

7082112

Label: Thema
Catalog#: THEMA034
Release date: 2013-03-25
Source: WEB
Format: MP3
Quality: 320 kbps
Size: 63 mb
Genre: Techno

Tracklist:
1. ReTelevised [Lucy Remix] (7:10)
2. ReTelevised [Donor/Truss Vinyl Edit Remix 1] (6:40)
3. ReTelevised [Donor/Truss Alternate Remix 2] (7:26)
4. ReTelevised [Original 1998 Version] (6:13)

Now at the fourth part of our Re:Vision series, we have followed the history from first rumblings in Chicago in the hands of those like Steve Poindexter, to the rise to worldwide prominence at the hands of Detroit innovators like Terrence Dixon. Moving to Europe circa 1998, techno was a 10-year established phenomenon, and Heiko Laux and his storied Kanzleramt label were at the height of a continent-wide movement that shows no signs of abating. Innovation was everywhere, whether in the dark vaults of Tresor where homage was paid to the Motown roots, and in many other forms that still speak to this day. Lauxs hard-edged industrial anthem Re-Televised is a sound very much of its time, but it is also one whose relevance to the present stands without question. Thus, in finding talent to take on this Re:Vision, we looked to the most futuristic contemporary producers to bring fresh angles that connect with the source material as well as todays most current sounds. Lucy, Donor, and Truss occupy a broad geographical slice of todays techno, but in the last few years they have distinguished themselves as the least compromising and most forward-thinking of their generation. Our Re:Vision of Heiko Luaxs Re-Televised reaffirms the originals forward-looking intent while emboldening the next step in technos history. While countless peers reach for similar ends, Lucy and his Stroboscopic Artefact label have made records that consistently stand apart for vision and experimentation. Lucy himself is without doubt the wildest of the bunch, and by halfway through his remix of Re-Televised, when it makes a left turn into damaged pyschedelia featuring flown-in vocal snippets over a pounding techno beat, its easy to see what sets him aside from more conventional operators. Likewise, Brooklyns Donor and the UKs Truss have both been making waves for a heavy, dirty style of techno that refuses to recognize restraints, and when the many layers of their rerub coalesce into a dystopian, swung lurch in the second half, listeners can revel in the dirt and disorientation their ideas bring to bear. From this, its obvious that Heiko Lauxs 1998 original is a 15-year step into the past, but we cant help but be intoxicated as distorted drums and echoed zaps roll forward to smash everything in their path. Digital DJs get a second, more floor-oriented mix from Donor and Truss if they can bear the extra pressure on an EP thats already as subtle as a punch to the gut. As an overview of todays best talent, a re-evaluation of past accomplishments, and a look into things to come, THEMAs Re:Vision looks back to the past while still moving unstoppably into the future.
