So far the Livity Sound Remix project has thrown up some interesting, and eminently danceable results (with the Pangaea and Beneath efforts our current favourites) and given that between them, Pev, Asusu and Kowton released almost 20 original Livity Sound productions, this still leaves a healthy dose of material open to reinterpretation. This latest edition sees the Livity crew open their back catalogue to two of Germany’s most compelling production units in Kassem Mosse and Mix Mup and the Dresvn pairing of Dynamo Dreesen and SVN and the results will resonate with anyone with a keen interest in the odder strands of house and techno. Leipzig’s finest take on Kowton’s 909 growler “More Games” under their KM/MM guise and deftly retain the original’s horror core grime strings whilst slowing the pace to their own murky tempo. It’s complemented well by the modular bleep-filled take on Asusu’s “Too Much Time Has Passed” from Dresvn which will make complete sense for anyone that pays close attention to their respective Acido and SUED labels.

Kowton’s brilliant edit of the Jeremih track “Fuck U All The Time” finally sees a proper release via the vaguely mysterious Broadwhites label backed with an equally good refix of Kowton from fellow Bristolian Kahn. The Kowton edit has been a secret weapon in the hands of a lucky few like Ben UFO and Bok Bok for a few months now (it was one of many highlights of the former’s mammoth four hour Boiler Room and filtered coffee session back in February) and the hype surrounding the edit has been magnified via the now obligatory raft of YouTube rips. Given that it’s an edit by Kowton, with his trademark flurry of brutally treated percussion, its something of a belter, even if the delicate lounge textures of the original still float eerily in the background. On the flip Kahn takes on Kowton’s rough “And What” embellishing it with the smoothness of Brandy’s “Slower”. Don’t wait, don’t hesitate!

Glasgow label All Caps bust down the house with their third release in as many years – clearly a label dedicated to quality over quantity – and it’s their best yet; no mean feat considering how high the “WTF” factor was on their previous release, Stacks Riddim from Helix. We’re not sure exactly what TFB stands for, but this 12″ finds Idle Hands and Livity Sound regular Kowton on imperious form with a self styled ode to grime group Ruff Sqwad that captures perfectly All Caps dual love of techno and grime. Pariah and Blawan are handed the honour of the first remix on an All Caps release, and their collective effort as Karenn does a magnificent job of translating the raw energy of Kowton’s original as a mangled, one take techno behemoth cast from hardware.
