Kowton’s brilliant edit of the Jeremih track “Fuck U All The Time” finally sees a proper release via the vaguely mysterious Broadwhites label backed with an equally good refix of Kowton from fellow Bristolian Kahn. The Kowton edit has been a secret weapon in the hands of a lucky few like Ben UFO and Bok Bok for a few months now (it was one of many highlights of the former’s mammoth four hour Boiler Room and filtered coffee session back in February) and the hype surrounding the edit has been magnified via the now obligatory raft of YouTube rips. Given that it’s an edit by Kowton, with his trademark flurry of brutally treated percussion, its something of a belter, even if the delicate lounge textures of the original still float eerily in the background. On the flip Kahn takes on Kowton’s rough “And What” embellishing it with the smoothness of Brandy’s “Slower”. Don’t wait, don’t hesitate!

Anthem builder Bashmore meets grubby soundbwoy Kowton on a nice ‘n rugged session for the former’s Broadwalk label. It’s a canny balance of their respective aesthetics; stubbly percussions dance against juicy bootied bass and soul burning vocal stabs bound to create some friction in the dance. ‘Mirror Song’ syncs scratchy hi-hats with ascending basslines and spiralling delays in hypnotic, driving form; ‘And What’ is much grimier, resetting rudimentary, ’04-style sublow to a bashier, skeletal house swing. The techno mix of ‘Mirror Song’ is our pick, a stripped down and thrumming slow techno banger somehow coming off like Soundhack in a foul mood.
