Palette Recordings is proud to welcome Daniel Troberg. Troberg, born on the Aaland Islands in Finland 1977, started dabbling in computers 30 years ago and was automatically dragged into the electronic music culture that was happening in Europe around the end of the ’80s and beginning of the ’90s. Growing up on equal doses of Chicago house music, German prototype techno, Finnish minimalism, and an upbringing on desolate islands fueled his creative drive and mindset a bit off the beaten path. Dj, producer, radio show host, promoter and technical savvy, Daniel’s vision has today manifested in a leading role at Elektron Music Machines, creators of fine electronic musical instruments. The title track “Bolivia” was conceived after traveling around in the marvelous country and taking in its extremes, something that reflects in the boldness and longevity of the music and sounds. It has been floating around within the innards of internet, surfacing only briefly up until now as it’s getting a proper release on Palette. “m3ltfac3” was made one gloomy Scandinavian winter as an experiment to get the Elektron Monomachine synthesizer to talk in a more human way than ever before. Although the lyrics are buried deep in the track, it warns of machines influencing the daily life of humans. A known theme by now but nonetheless always in question. “TBTIHES” was originally formed for a short film by Swedish video maker Sarah Schmidt in 2008, but has now taken a form of its own, creating a visual representation of itself in the rhythms, textures and sounds of the music. The title of the track really says it all. Rounding out the EP, is a special John Tejada remix of the title track.

The Solar One Music label operated by Nico Jagiella and Robert ‘The Exaltics’ Witschakowski use the start of a new year to launch a new series called Elektronische Werke and turn to an electro heavyweight to inaugurate it. If you are invested in this kind of music, the name Dynarec should be immediately familiar with the French producer a storied presence on Delsin, Puzzlebox and his own Vaporwave label. The Exomove EP is a perfect demonstration of Dynarec’s talents, with the full flight vocoder infused electro of “All Automatic” complemented by the entirely too rude and rugged flex of “Double Postpone”. Face down and the title track sounds like a Drexciya cut exploding in several different directions whilst “Water Meadow” is high octane unadulterated futurism.

More heads-down grooves from the Wrong State, this time from promising Italian producer Giacomo Greppi. After a debut last year on IWW Music that found support from Ricardo Villalobos, Raresh, Onur Özer and others, he comes armed with two killers tracks that each receive some quality remix action.
The deep, pensive strains of Retlav make for a gently seductive ride, plump kicks knocking away at a woozy sub bassline and peppy snare and clap rhythms synergising alongside. The slightest of pad and stab sounds draw some dramatic tension into the mix, the hi-hats gaining energy as the track develops into something with slightly more urgency.
Cocoon stalwart Dorian Paic delves headlong into the track, serving up a murkier interpretation which makes for an even more trippy and disorientating listen.
_Giacomo teams up once again with Ocu (who he collaborated with on his IWW release) for b-side Untitled 1, a lively little groover laden with sizable bass tones, metallic FX and head-nodding percussion.
Romanian techno talent Marcman comes fresh from releases on Adult Only and Savor Music for a tasty remix, conjuring up some infectious rhythms which gradually take on a soft tribal lilt. His slow-building take on the track is mysterious, beguiling and full of subtle detail.
