Genius Of Time and Running Back seems like such a perfect fit you wonder why the Swedish duo haven’t graced Gerd Janson’s label before now. It might be because Alexander Berg and Nils Krough aren’t exactly the most prolific of duos when it comes to original material with only three EPs to their name since they inaugurated the Aniara project in such sublime fashion back in 2010. Fans of Genius of Time and John Talabot’s DJ Kicks mix have added reason to engage in some vociferous rejoicing as the former’s sublime offbeat number “Juno Jam” contribution to the latter release is centre stage on this 12″. In addition to the A Side bliss of that Berg and Krough slip in two more percussive numbers on the flip which Running Back quite rightly point out would make “Joe Claussell proud”

For their 20th release, Berlin imprint Kallias opens the stage to their favorite duo Nod One’s Head finally debuting on their home base with their „Secret Love EP“ with Remix-Work done by none other than dapayk solo and Johannes Albert.

Opening up the packet with the original version, „Secret Love“ is a full-front glam-jam that has been wildly anticipated and will rock you out of your dancing shoes. A firm baseline is your flight attendee on this journey with NOH’s special UK-rooted mixture of sweet live vocals and a jacking percussion frame work that gives the main synth melody room and space to spread, giving praise to their 90’s inspired House and Hip Hop ideals. Echoey voices – err … secret-love! – give you just enough pop appeal to see the openair season unfold. Dapayk solo also concentrates on a stable bass ground, although spare vocal usage gives the whole piece a more ghettoey-forward approach – aggressive hi-hats underlining the wobbly-base-scetch and the – of course! – the same catchy melody of the original creating a build-up that lets the beat flow and culminate in the Ohrwurm vocals of Lotte: „My secret love – nobody knows, nobody shall know.“ Finishing off the packet is Frank Music’s Johannes Albert, known for his A-class bass-laden acid house, giving the track a more underground appeal, taking out the speed, concentrating on a more lade-back approach, letting Lottes sweet vocals be accompanied by soothing acid-synth bits, that are underlined by a huge synth landscape growing into the night sky while the song goes on and on, finally turning into a beautifully arranged synth-piano riff that lets the track fade out. Stuart Li, better known as Basic Soul Unit, set up the Lab.our Music label last year as a low-key outlet for vinyl only transmissions from himself and others. Having introduced local Toronto talent Maxwell Church last time round, Li is back behind the buttons for Lab.our 003 which seems to retain the techno orientated slant of much of Basic Soul Unit’s work in 2013. Lead track “Head Long” grips control of the A Side, rolling out one long groove of heads down techno, with the sort of windy textures and rolling toms that tend to get Ben UFO all excited. Face down, “Nowhere To Be Found” opts for a more broken feel, with the ghost of hardcore buried deep in it’s DNA and the kind of stunted drums that can cause ankle fractures, and “Spiralling Down” will appeal to STL fans.
