Creating his own Abdulla Rashim Records at a young age, he now has the means and confidence to establish a platform for artists and friends orbiting his universe: the Northern Electronics label.

This label is a communal home for f.e Varg, Ulwhednar, Korridor and Acronym. All being friends of Abdulla, their link between each other outside the real world became this label. Running a label is hard work, so they keep their fires burning by drawing inspiration between each other, pushing their limits as they all have open­minded ears that surely and instinctively listen to their music.

“I basically followed the pleasure principle when approaching the mix. I started to pick my favourite pieces of dance music regardless of age or sub-genre and didn’t really begin to structure the mix until all the tracks had been cleared, except for one. So as I began to throw the tracks together as spontaneously as possible, the structure of the mix began to take shape. I did a single take before I recorded the final version of the mix as it is now in order to keep it as lively and representative of a live DJ set as possible. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed myself as much working on a mix in the studio before!”

The mix itself is a captivating ride through Deetron’s most personal selections, with disparate sounds, scenes and styles all connected up with perfect sequencing and tight mixing. There’s everything from classic Chicago material by DJ Sneak and Gemini to material from Detroit stalwart Carl Craig via leftfield inclusions from Atoms For Peace. As well as some old classics there are modern gems from the fast rising likes of Marquis Hawkes and Seven Davis Jr, plus no nonsense techno inclusions from pioneers like Function and Marcel Dettmann. A truly kaleidoscopic mix, fabric 76 is the sound of a DJ digging deep, having fun, and playing those tracks in Deetron’s distinctive style.

Graham ‘Greymatter’ Luckhurst has always been tricky to pin down. Initially inspired by soul, hip-hop and broken beat, his 2010 debut album Mind Over Matter joined the dots between those genres, garage and left-of-centre house. Having spent the last few years dropping quirky deep house floor fillers for Wolf Music, he returns to the London imprint with his sophomore set. Visions is an intriguing and entertaining set that’s typically hard to categorize. While it has analogue deep house at its’ core (as displayed via collaborations with Sophie Brown, Medlar and KRL), there are distinct nods to jazz, wonky downtempo electronica, and twisted, out-there acid.

Atonement marks the third instalment of Osunlade’s on-going Offering mix series. Like the two previous instalments, it largely ignores the more organic, African-influenced side of his sound in favour of a warmer, fluid, heavily electronic deep house vibe. Yet however electronic and European the grooves, there’s still in innate soulfulness to the American producer’s selections. As a result, highlights are plentiful, from the intricate, delicate piano motifs of Roman Flugel’s “Song With Blue” and the enveloping warmth of Andrew Soul’s “Disconnected Thoughts”, to the weary, early morning glitchiness to the mix-closing “Late Night Thinking” by Estrroe.
