Emerging from their 15 year celebration, Viva continues on strong with Afterhours, a 9-track album from Baltimore-based producer Lomez. This thing’s got as much range as it does depth with subtle yet sophisticated tracks, aimed at taking things deeper post bar-closing time and beyond. Starting with the jazzed-out and airy “Summerside feat. Atnarko”, things quickly enter deep and dark tech-house territory with “On My Mind”. From there we take a breather with the washed-out and atmospheric downtempo cut “Distance and Love” before picking up the tempo again and heading back into dancey and modern-retro vibes with “Smiles in My Sleep feat. Phillip Charles”. “Algonquin” takes us even further with a stabby bass line and stompy rhythm. “Breed” is the techiest cut on the album, hallmarked by its brooding bass work and robotic vocal line, an afterhours track if there ever was one. “Wet Sands feat. Andrew Grant” follows with a slow-burning house line. “Wes Pratt feat. Andrew Grant” keeps the energy levels up and the acid flowing before finally closing with the dubbed-out and dreamy disco cut “Dig”.
