Dixon continues his relationship with Tresor, one that dates back to 2000, when he released his peerless album, From The Far Future on the German label. More abstract than some of his recent works, Thief sees the Detroit producer provide a master class in reduction. “Frequencies Different” revolves around a frazzled, filtered loop before Dixon drops one of his customary understated kicks, while on “Confusion of Another Kind”, he descends into a myriad of tangled electronic whirrs and clicks, backed with a clanging, resorting rhythm. It’s about as out there as dance floor techno gets. Then there’s the title track, where Dixon conjures up an eerie, beatless soundtrack and “The Test of Time”, which sees this pioneering artist deliver an organic-sounding take on his pointillist sound.
