There are not too many industrial producers who are able to distill the sound for the dance floor as Romansoff. The Bucharest artist has unleashed his frightening visions for labels as diverse as Creme, Signal Code and his own Raw Tools imprint, and now makes an appearance on Sportiv. The title track is a raw, grinding affair that stutters and jerks its way through a cloud of black noise and interference. On “Bodylock” he opts for a different approach. The groove is straighter and its enveloping textures sound partly inspired by Basic Channel’s cavernous dub style. However, the eerie, malevolent undercurrents are never too far away from Romansoff’s sound.
