DJ October throws down some dub-tinged deepness for his debut on Skudge, his first release of 2014 and an apparent prelude to a forthcoming debut album for the Swedish label. It’s the A-side’s “Jaffa” which combines woozy synths of someone like Mr Cloudy with the high powered leads of Legowelt, while the title-track, “Gate 2 Yesterday”, is also dubby but there’s more of a focus on drums and percussion than textures and riddim. It’s nice to have October back and an intriguing hint as to how that upcoming album might sound.
