The reinvigoration of Jorge Velez career over recent years has been a joy to behold. While he’s been making music since the 1990s – as Rush Hour’s 2012 compilation of old MMT Tape recordings proves – it’s only in recent times that he’s really hit his stride. This mini album for L.I.E.S – his third outing for Ron Morelli’s acclaimed imprint – is a thing of great beauty, with the veteran New York producer joining the dots between creepy, metallic electronica, unsettling ambience, drowsy techno, tropical influences, and more post-apocalyptic fare. While undoubtedly experimental in nature and prone to taking a bleak outlook, Animals Disk is still a surprisingly beautiful album, with plenty of intriguing musical avenues to explore.
