Mr Oizo hooks up with Crookers for a raw release that transcends genres. Crookers fly solo on “They Comin'”, where vocal samples echo against dubbed out drums and razor-sharp percussion. The counterpoint between these elements makes for a wonderfully understated, spaced out techno track. “Johnny Depp”, Crookers’ collaboration with Mr Oizo, is more earthy. Powered by a rubbery bass and concrete kicks, it is peppered with dramatic French vocal samples and glassy synths. Label regulars
Nikki Nair & DJ ADHD are tapped to rework “Johnny Depp”. In their hands, it takes on a radically different shape. Upping the tempo and layering the arrangement with feedback, they turn in a galloping peak-time banger that resounds to dramatic screeches and tortured tones.
