After releases by Move D and Jordash (as Jordan GCZ), the Off Minor label has readied its third release, this time from Magic Mountain High, the live trio consisting of Move D and both members of Juju & Jordash. The EP offers four tracks of deep and experimental techno as per the trio’s much loved live show, as well as coming with wonderful artwork from Orpheu de Jong.

‘Suub’ goes first and naturally has a healthy, growling bass quotient underpinning the whole thing. Up top, thin and tortured sounding synth lines get drawn out and stretched, pushed and pulled all around as ever more turbulent percussion and wild electronics grow into an increasingly heady and trance inducing frenzy. ‘Riptide’ is a more traditionally structured track, this time lowering itself down into a deep house groove that’s fleshed out with live synths, icy hi hats and a slight sense of melodic unease: it’s superlative stuff that really works its way into both your heart and your head.

On the flip, ‘Avalanche’ gets rhythmically playful, chucking random claps, grumbling bass and skittish percussion into a prickly arrangement that bristles and percolates with a mind all its own. It’s deep and dark, unpredictable and tinged with industrial tropes before ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina (No Compromise Mix)’ closes out the EP in serene and sombre fashion with a deep and stripped back house groove that’s riddled with heart aching synths, haunting winds and sandy percussion.
