LA’s Neil Reinalda aka Phork returns to NNA Tapes – home of his best gear – with another light-footed, bass-heavy flux of dub, hip hop, field recordings and electronic psychedelia. ‘High End’ feels like his most coherent long-player to date, following a cryptically Cageian sense of logic across its six songs and 30 minute playing time. ‘Wrecked’ sets a spare, ambiguous tone with doo wop-like vocal harmonies and sharp guitar licks contrasted against dank drips and sparse, percolating drum machines until a whining dial tone and crackling location recordings bleed thru into the darker, repeato refractions of ‘Work’, itself ending amidst abstract swirl of textured field sources. Likewise, ‘Contact’ continues this line of enquiry, crossing dimensions between evocative spaces and Afro-futurist rhythmelodies, conjuring the sensation of being two or three places at once. The discordant compisiton ‘Oof’ slowly deviates into a sealed airlock. preciptating the jagged pulses of ‘Contact’ and spooling stabs of ‘Debt’ to close, leaving us beguiled and running back to the start. Hubble – Hubble Eagle

Artist: Hubble
Title Of Album: Hubble Eagle
Year Of Release: oct 2013
Label: NNA Tapes
Genre: Experimental, Psychedelic, Electronic
Quality: MP3
Bitrate: 320 kbps
Total Time: 00:39:41
Total Size: 91 mb

Tracklist:
1. Hubble – A Star Or Two Beside [21:12]
2. Hubble – A Long Way From Home [05:13]
3. Hubble – Hubble Eagle [13:08]

*Former Zs man Ben Greenberg with a mesmerising, sense scrambling slice of intricate electro-acoustic deconstructions** “On “Hubble Eagle” we hear Greenberg launching his guitar mantra even further into uncharted territory. Opening with the side-long “A Star Or Two Beside”, Hubble trades in his trusted electric and opts for acoustic guitar, which when subjected to Greenberg’s turbulent tapping chops, yields incredible and unexpected sonic results. Complex percussive patterns begin to emerge, creating a raw rhythmic backbone for a constantly shifting vortex of overtones and harmonic weavings. These dulcimer-like pluckings ping-pong back and forth across a vast stereo field, creating a whirlwind effect that sweeps over the listener like river rapids; bubbling, rushing, chaotic, and endlessly flowing. After some immersion, the barrage of notes can start to feel automated or even electronic, until brief pauses and subtle flourishes break the hypnotic spell, reminding the listener of the human nature of this music. Side B opens with the breaking of more new ground on the track “A Long Way From Home” originally by The Kinks, Hubble’s first cover song. Inspired by Greenberg’s rigorous touring schedule on the open road, Hubble meditates on the feelings of isolation and melancholy set forth in the original song. By deconstructing the riffs and rebuilding them in the Hubble framework, the track turns into an electro-acoustic hybrid that is entirely new in sound, employing alternate tunings and adding vocals for the first time in the project’s history. The result opens new harmonic gateways for the notes to flow through a psych-rock atmosphere. Closing off with the title track “Hubble Eagle”, Hubble is in it’s truest form with a powerful electric guitar exercise. The playing is mechanical in its relentless repetition, creating guitar fractals that seem to crystallize around themselves like the formation of a galaxy… Greenberg successfully reminds us of the importance of hand-played music and the human touch in a time when electronics and circuitry along seem to prevail. Enhanced by the record’s flow from acoustic into electric sound, the result of “Hubble Eagle” is a truly unique modern guitar album.”

Anthony Child – The Space Between People and Things

Anthony Child - The Space Between People and Things

Source: WEB
Format: MP3

Size: 93 mb
Genre: Electronic

Tracklist:
1. ANTHONY CHILD : The Space Between People and Things (Part 1)
2. ANTHONY CHILD : The Space Between People and Things (Part 2)

Anthony Child presents his first solo album – outside of his work as Surgeon – in over a decade. As with his turn-of-the-millenium drops on Downwards and FatCat, (‘Boys, School Showers & Swimming Pools’; splits with Jansky Noise and Stock, Hausen & Walkman), he uses his birth name to denote his non-dancefloor and texture-based experiments, as he explains that this record “…consists of location recordings, tonal experiments, and thought-forms from many different positions in space and time. It is the sound of the space between people and things.” Using a palette of source material created over the last 16 years, Child’s music here both exists in and emphasises negative space, favouring bright, visceral dissonance for its physical, kinaesthetic qualities in a sort of inverted harmonic co-action with your listening space. The album plays through seamlessly, as it would on the original tape edition, ideal to absorb the whole piece properly. Both parts are conducted with glacial patience not normally associated with his techno work, gradually ascending through shimmering polychrome wormhole to ostensibly static microtones and deeply trippy choral voices, to a more dynamic 2nd half collage of diffused field recordings, computer music and electro-acoustic noise. It’s by far the most interesting record we’ve heard from him in years. RIYL Bernard Parmegiani, Hecker & Haswell, EVOL, Emptyset.
