Better known as Dick Diamonds of the rising Toronto act the Hermans, Jerry Riggs brings his A-game to kick off Parity’s release schedule for 2014 with three strong originals that make for tasty 3AM techno treats on the dance floor. The Canadian techno contingency is well represented with the Deep North crew’s Birdy Tam, Maxwell Church, and Hermans all contributing exquisite remixes to the EP. The stacked release also includes a formidable remix from Parity owner Syphon, tying the two families together in a North American techno free-for-all. TRACK DESCRIPTIONS: Futile Digressions – An excellent mix of Nineties bleep style techno and the cutting edge, melodic sounds of the Parity label. The track fuses the deep and the dance floor effectively for something original and fresh. Futile Digressions (Birdy Tam’s Frugal Regressions Mix) – The remix takes a slappy, off-kilter route for a decidedly more minimal sound, offering a nice counterpoint to the original for adventurous DJs looking to bring something new to the dance floor. Seek Shelter – This is a squelchy analog clapper with some weird twists and turns cooked at a slow boil before bubbling over into musical perfection at the breakdown. Seek Shelter (Maxwell Church 99%% Reconstituted Mix) – On the remix, Maxwell Church turns things upside down for a monsterous chunk of well-crafted dance floor techno. This is big room material that provides a nice emotional connection as well. Steamliner – The title track instantly stands out in a crowded DJ set with a strong kick drum and inventive percussion patterns. The main focus here is melody and rhythm upfront and everything else secondary. Steamliner (Hermans Quirk Mix) – The lone funky mix on this stellar techno EP is done to perfection with soulful organ stab and delightfully shuffly tech-house beats to get even the most listless crowd jumping. Steamliner (Syphon Scud Dub) – The Parity sound is represented on the single’s closing mix. The blending of tracky Midwest beats and the relentless modern techno drive is a Syphon trademark and offers a brilliant late night angle on the Deep North’s tasteful dance floor style.
