Portugal’s mutant techno answer to Zomby, IVVVO arrives at Danse Noire with the excellent ‘Theories Of Anxiety’ 12″. Steeped in faded, classic rave motifs and riven with nervous rhythm, the EP plays out a sehnsucht for some kinda emotion or moody blue sentiment in modern dance music. Without wanting to lessen his other work, we’d say he’s properly realised his potential here, spending his energies equally between the airborne, elegiac rave themes of ‘Closer’ and the chokingly gorgeous beatless blow-out ‘Consumed’ up top, and the heads-down ambient rave thump of ‘Repetition’ with Infinity Frequencies, or the 154-esque techno swarm of ‘Fear’ on the flip.
