Little-known London producer Echer pops up on Electric Minds with a three-track taster of his basement-minded deep house style. Opener “Basement 3B” sets the tone, pitching simple, woozy melodies against hissing, snare-heavy grooves and occasional bursts of late night vocal oddness. The hissing “Gurlz”, on the other hand, sounds like a tribute to simpler times – all nagging bottom-end, relentless ’90s house pianos and rave-era attitude. Best of all is the defiantly crackly “Fat Kid”, a kind of minimal-era take on “Deep Burnt”-period Pepe Bradock. There’s enough in all three tracks to suggest that Echer could be one to watch this year.
