Stafford-based producer Dave Gerrard specializes in creating cut-and-paste tracks that blend the best elements of familiar disco, funk, boogie and hip-hop jams. What really marks him out, though, is the classy way that he does it. Check out the way he shifts between basslines, grooves and samples on the boogie-tinged house jam “What We Gonna Do Here” (inspired, if that’s the word, by Midnight Express’s “Danger Zone”) or the way he breathes new life into the Average White Band on the thrilling “Drop The Pieces”. There’s also a riotous tribute to the giants of P-Funk on “Rip The Funk”, arguably the EP’s strongest moment.
