Turin based producer Yari Malaspina aka OOBE follows up last years’ Opal Tapes-released “SFTCR” cassette with a more clearly defined and uniquely digitized approach to ambient electronica.

Resting melancholy echoes onto slow rave rhythms, “Digitalisea” is a heavy, histrionic set of slow moves into Stargate-mining planetscapes and gaseous, computerized digi-psych. OOBE is deeply cosmic in all of these ultra synthetic dealings with tropes of both ambient techno and classic 90s euphoria, regenerating fragments of both into his own dense, amorphous blur of textural but rhythmic ambience that comes out somewhere between a processed and pixelated Huerco S. and crisply distorted Sci-Fi version of Actress.

“Digitalisea” investigates glitches just under the surfaces of recent distroidian and post-internet sheens as much as the hauntological distant club echos that characterized “SFTCR”. It’s hard to tell if its straight up pitch black or solar-scorched, but it’s always blissed out beneath the claustrophobia.

This is something Babe Rainbow (aka Cameron Reed) believes wholeheartedly. He hadn’t really made electronic music before starting Babe Rainbow a number of years back, and shortly thereafter he was signed to Warp. Before that, he had been making angular punk music in Vancouver.

Each of these 12 tracks are composed in Reed’s by now recongisable mode of lucid electronica. Stripping instrumentation back to solely piano reveals crystalline and oblique meditations on residual influences from Phillip Glass, Erik Satie, and Terry Riley to Keith Fullerton Whitman and Nils Frahm.

Before joining How To Dress Well on the road during 2012 he had never really played piano besides some occasional tinkering. So when he became comfortable enough to play, he started writing. It became a new challenge with endless possibilities. Appreciating the limitations of one instrument and juxtaposing the experience of producing electronic music with its vast possibilities.

Babe Rainbow’s 1080p debut in cassette and digital form comes as a surprising parallel to his main body of electronic work but aligns closely with the labels ethos as a space for casual experimentation and genre exploration.

“I’m not a piano player, I’m not trained. I’m just a musician with a bunch of ideas that I want to explore. It’s not polished, it’s exactly what it should be. Everything is worth exploring. Nothing gets crossed out. I love it, I hope you do, too.”

The rise of 1080p over the past year has been most enjoyable to watch, with the Vancouver-based operation turning into one of the most reliable DIY labels in the world of experimental house and techno. This year has seen tapes from Gobby, Luke Wyatt’s Nissan-inspired Infiniti project and a killer album of crunchy, ecstasy-tinged house from homegrown Vancouver talent LNRDCROY among many others, and the label is showing no signs of letting up despite 2014 fast heading into the sunset.

Amidst the label’s next batch of cassettes is the full 1080p debut of North Carolina-born, Boston-based producer Via App, a visual artist interested in “recontextualizing sounds that function to synthesize hype/excitement.” The alias of 20-year-old Dylan Scheer, her brand of sludgy yet playful dance floor constructions are a perfect fit for 1080p, and will be explored across 10 tracks on the Dangerous Game tape. Ahead of the release on September 16, 1080p has kindly offered us the first play of album track “I Came To Win”, which contrasts blown-out kicks and mangled vocals with moments of heady rave euphoria.

Claustro-euphoric techno from New Zealand (now Melbourne-based) Mark Wundercastle with 7 erudite and extremely heavy tracks tinged by early 00s futurist vibes. Tech paranoia dissolves and inverts techno’s dark bias into an uplifting and very deep journey of retroactive, pure reality.

Influenced by second wave Detroit techno and also gunked with residual traces of New Zealand’s club scene and “Herbal Highs” vibes that creep out of darkly nostalgic but synth-melody-heavy realms. Major cyber cafe marathon vibes come off this digital test, also jacked on late night endless scrolling YouTube trawls.

A post-dated industrial sheen is smeared with a murkier interest in surveillance, NSA/social networking-era dread as well as bygone sensations of gaming-marathons and cybercafes as much as clubs.

“Cell” is an endurance test positively lifting you up; no facades.

Moonlit lounge laments out of a North Vancouver houseboat from Evelyn Mason and Olivia Meek aka Evy Jane and Regular Fantasy. Bobo Eyes is an ultra chill collaboration of varied fidelity using synthesizers, drum machines and vocals, and though the textures range from lightly scuffed to crystal clear, the mood is always fixed on closeness.

“Midnight Pearl” looks towards a handful of classic genre moves in disco and pop with eyes on some more dancefloor-based signifiers; oil diffused techno feelings run underneath dreamdrenched vocals into uniquely cosmic homemade ballads like “Do U Miss Me (Rainstick Mix)”. The flipside in terms of space is the more low-tech “Think Str8 (Can’t Do It) [Cellphone Manicure Mix]” where lo-fi Casio vibes meet dual distant vocals.

The colder-edged disco tinge to “Air Sign (Aquarius Mix)” has a similarly bittersweet chorus/verse dynamic to “Mystery Girl” with its steady four-four base. “Bobo Head (Radio Mix)” fades in and out of blissed out and casually repeated vocals atop meandering, positive synth melodies.

Specifically designed for tape, Bobo Eyes gaze into romance-heavy past greats of disco/pop and experimental bedroom Casio night moves all inside the safety net of the Bobo bubble.

Twisted, maximalist and hyper-cerebral electronica from New Zealand (now Melbourne-based) producer Tlaotlon aka Jeremy Coubrough, who has produced a number of distinctly frenetic records in the last few years for Dungeon Taxis, Epic Sweep and Trensmat.

After recently replacing the old PC (a rugged dusty chunk of components in an exposed case with no protective panels) on which he built those experiments in noise and dismantled techno, Coubrough explores a new kind of narcotically euphoric virtuality on a new machine, with added synthetic stimulation from a new e-cigarette. For “Ektomists”, the vapour flavour of choice was Redbull; thick plumes of smoke in front of dual 24” monitors displaying several new processes in the Tlaotlon sound.

The four 7-minute tracks on “Ektomists” are multi-rhythmic and techno-influenced, with huge flourishes and meticulous sound design thanks to this more computer generated approach. Where previous albums have incorporated more analog approaches (built with a series of pedals and a 16 channel desk), this newly erudite take on re-negotiating techno’s relationship to machines shuffles amongst hectic polyrhythms but also more linearly laid out drum sequences; post-industrial and slippery, fluid, and accelerated.

Synths, distorted samples and drum sequences hustle for space and attention only to crumble outward into wide open space, an endless-point-cloud vapourized/vapourizing domain. Insanely manipulated, growling digital vocals are drilled into huge, rapturous synth chords that are above all suggestive of an escapist urge to interact with but ultimately soar above power and technology, whether it’s the machine of the NSA, marketing, or emojis.

“Novodene” is a pure out of body experience built in a space between mind warping acid ideals and exhibits looks towards the funky edges of the mechanic with anthropocentric rhythms and a heavy deconstruction of four-four dance signifiers for an ultimately sleek, mechanic but biological experience. “Fuji IV” has the same sort of club backbone but quickly disorients into messy, quasi-techno punctuated with bursts of outer-space synth swirls and brightly mutated textures.

Infiniti (インフィニティ Infiniti?, IPA: [inɸinʲiti]) is the luxury vehicle division ofJapanese automaker Nissan Motor Company. Infiniti officially started selling vehicles on November 8, 1989 in North America.

The Infiniti brand was introduced in the USA in 1989. Infiniti is Luke Wyatt. Themarketing strategy was to target the premium vehicle segments in the United States that would not have otherwise fit in with Nissan’s more mainstream image, and partially influenced by the Plaza Accord of 1985.

The Infiniti marque was launched with two models, the Q45, and the M30. The Q45 was based on the all new second generation JDM Nissan President on a five millimeter shorter wheelbase platform at 2,875 mm (113.2 in). Starting with model year 1992, the wheelbase matched the President’s wheelbase at 2880 mm (113.4 in). The Q45 included a 278 hp (207 kW; 282 PS) V8 engine, four wheel steering, and active suspension system offered on the first generation Q45t. The car’s features would have made it competitive in the full-sized “luxury” segment against the Mercedes S-Class,BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XJ and Cadillac Fleetwood.

1990 Infiniti M30

A second model was introduced in 1990, the 2-door M30, a badge engineered Nissan Leopard. It remained in production for three years as an alternative to the Lexus SC. The powertrain was the VG30E 162 hp (121 kW; 164 PS) engine and an automatic transmission. The M30 coupe was underpowered for its stock weight of 3,333 lb (1,512 kg). The M30 convertible weighed even more, due to the required body and chassis reinforcements.

Infiniti did not offer an mid-luxury sedan to match the first Japanese luxury sedan introduced to North America, the Acura Legend, which was later joined by the Lexus GS. Infiniti’s first offering in the entry-level luxury segment was the Infiniti J30, which had to compete with the revised 1992 Lexus ES and was unsuccessful owing to its small interior and unusual styling to which it was succeeded in 1996 by the Infiniti Iseries, related to the Nissan Maxima and in 2002 by the Infiniti G35.

The Infiniti badge is a stylized representation of a road extending into the horizon, stretching to “Infiniti”. Infiniti is Luke Wyatt.

“Lo-tech homemade house and techno maneuvers out of British Columbia from D. Tiffany, whose recent relocation from Vancouver to her hometown of Nelson resulted in this debut collection of super raw and mesmeric experiments in home electronics. Inflected with some of the acid and much of the smoke from her 1080p split with Bobby Draino last year (under the Xophie Xweetland moniker), this self-titled release is as immersive as dissociative. Jittery, hypnogogic drifters like opener “Tranq Moon” are a mission statement for the smoked out and slinky grooves that emanate out of each of this release as a whole; loose but economical hybrids with a twisted sense of motion and genuinely weird sense of texture. “Fade Groove”’s nine minutes are a foggy yet glassy trip bumping with restless cowbell and a busted acid melody, a perfect example in both name and nature of her interest in deconstructing classic tempos into an indoors, escapist blur of brittle textures and subdued euphoria. D. Tiffany’s take on fantasy seems a specific one, a sort of burnt out flight of fancy thanks to a wild and fried imagination and just straight up cabin fever from the heavy Nelson winter. This deracinated take on house and techno ideals is built with blissed-out naivety and a super idiosyncratic set of frenetic rhythms and eye for comfy vibrations.”

Max McFerren has long been a staple of Brooklyn and Chinatown’s lofts and club spaces at particularly late hours with his playful but muscular take on techno, but this is the first glimpse into the unadorned but texturally luxurious MCFERRDOG project. Jacked on twisted optimism and Power 105.7 bombastics, “Club Amniotics” toes extremes of fantastical, bubbly weird-as-I-wanna-be experiments and a hugely emotive, open-spaced club vernacular.

Whether goofing off into circus EDM and kaleidoscopic, elasticated techno or hitting ultra-sincere emotions and straight up euphoria, MCFERRDOG is totally uninhibited in this pre-subjective, pre-club ego-forming sphere. Fantasizing an alt Panorama Bar culture, particularly sportive bouncers like “Thesaurus Mode” ride a clearer techno tempo, processing jumped up club signifiers into a super melodic ASMR love story. Mutated neo-rave sensations rise off of the title track (one of the c38s more sensual moments) whereas the stop-start funk of “Rosewater” or slightly drunker “Vulgar Physics” is bouncy and straight up weird.

This dual mind might go some ways to explain McFerren’s interactions with the likes of DJ Richard and Young Male at the same time as playing warehouses with acid freaks like Gobby and Physical Therapy. MCFERRDOG’s strokes are broad; tapping into the threshold of a good idea and reopening recent youth with post-ironic realness and notions of unbridled imagination, fantasy and new age.

Middlesborough, UK duo Perfume Advert (Aaron Turner and Tom Brown) pairs deep, crawling techno abstractions with sandy textures and subliminal, blurry synth lines to create new hybrid dance sonics that drift and fade like mirages on the horizon. Born out of this past July’s genuinely hot UK Summer in the tiny upstairs room of a small town house, early experimentations with sweaty 110BPM house beats led to the “Tulpa” cassette – nine completely live recordings of haze-worshipping ambient techno with a backbone of slow-growing, demented house grooves.

The very much one-shot approach (with very little in the way of post production) to textural techno and house sees the dark and murky signifiers that are now perhaps identifiably “outsider house” insist on moving forward with a deep, analogue warmth. The super thick haze of field recordings and noisy (but subtly melodic) textures that back the main Korg ESX-1 powered grooves; lead tracks “Rotted Out” and “Lampers” wobble with a vivid, Sci-Fi imagination as much as a proclivity for warped club grooves. Mechanic rhythms carry the tapes’ overall fantasy atmosphere that is based as much off heavy gamer dreamscapes as much as J.G. Ballard’s or H.P. Lovecraft’s sense of the grotesque.

“Tulpa” is indebted to the ultra-realized stark/bleak oblique dance worlds of Andy Stott, Basic House, Raime, Tim Hecker and Huerco S., but the psychoactive mood that leaks out of Perfume Advert’s vivid amorphous world is clearly the product of two close friends converging in all the right places. Using shortwave radio, Abelton and various effects, Tom Brown’s drones and textures crossed borders into Turner’s slacker funk with a surprisingly freedom in just a month or so of jamming.

Turner’s solo, fog-obsessed work as //Ama took an overtly British post-dubstep approach to the hauntologic but still felt strongly rhythmic, the potent grooves that wriggle out of Perfume Advert’s abstracted, texture-drenched techno are never bogged down in the murky dreamscapes that fill them out.

Don’t be fooled by the corporate lustre of their titles, it’s all part of Mind Dynamics‘ desire to subvert the hi-tech, faster-better-stronger mindset of twenty-first century living. Foregoing the clean lines and HD-quality modern software has bestowed, The Brooklyn duo Daniel Freshwater and Brian Whateverer create decayed, feric-scarred techno. While their cover art and titles certainly the same obsession with branding and capitalist semiotics as vaporwave artists, the duo approach their music with far less ambiguity as to whose side they’re really on, and it ain’t the side of corporate muzak-making. Recorded live, these scrambled signals possess a twisted vitality—the rhythmic snap of “Juice Cleanse 2″ feels like a Night Slugs cut buried beneath a dense crust of flotsam—which clatters and dissipates as if caught between long-lost AM bandwidths.
