Although not primarily known as a DJ, Los Angeles electrofunk hero Dam Funk boasts a killer record collection. That much is proved by this superb contribution to the DJ Kicks series. This DJ-friendly digital edition is chock full of highlights, from the deep, synth-heavy modern boogie of Moon B’s superb “Ooof”, and the bouncy, deep Chicago house of Gemini’s “Log In”, to the smooth, eyes-closed Yacht Rock grooves of “True To Yourself” by Terry Palkovic. Predictably, he’s also found room for a string of lesser-known boogie and synth-funk gems, including all 14 minutes of Randall & Schippers’ smooth “Love Jam”, the sparkling boogie-soul of Take Three’s “Tonight’s The Night (For Love)”, and a killer chunk of 1983 electro from Uncle Jamm’s Army (“Dial-A-Freak”, an early outing from The Egyptian Lover and friends).
