The remix follows the release of TSHA’s latest EP “Flowers”, which includes collaborations with British singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin and Malian griot music group Trio Da Kali, and is undoubtedly her most accomplished work to date. Praise for the EP has come from Billboard, who declared that “it shimmers and shines, with TSHA’s clean, layered production”, whilst NME described the EP as “emotion-filled electronic anthems from a star in the making”. Elsewhere, Dancing Astronaut hailed TSHA’s “delicate studio touch and distinct ability to blend influences from across the spectrum painting a picture of a producer mature beyond her years.”, naming her one of their ‘Artists To Watch in 2021’. Further support came from the likes of NPR, Resident Advisor, Mixmag, NYLON, DJ Mag, and many more, with additional end-of-year highlighting from Billboard—who named ‘Change’ one of their dance tracks of the year— Beatportal, Paste and Earmilk.

Kicking off 2021 in style, TSHA has been named BBC Radio 1s “Future Artist” for January and her debut BBC Essential Mix aired this weekend.

A 2-hour tour de force touching on disco, classic 90s house, UKG, acid techno and essential dub reggae alongside exclusive unreleased new music from the likes of Elkka, Prospa and Kessler, TSHA also features a new remix of her collaboration with Trio De Kali – ‘Demba’ – reworked by Demi Riquísimo. Released today, the Semi Delicious label boss adds his inimitable touch, switching up the 4/4 pulse and building out a breakier groove.

‘Demba’ is a collaboration with Malian griot music group Trio Da Kali. “I was searching for Malian singers, as I had fallen in love with the tone and emotion in Malian music and a vocalist called Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté was recommended to me by Dr. Lucy Duran —a professor of music at SOAS University of London who specialises in West African music” explains TSHA. Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté is one of the most revered musicians in the Malian griot tradition. Her vocals and beautiful balafon accompaniment by Lassana Diabaté were the foundations for ‘Demba’ (Godmother). At its heart it’s a woman’s song advocating female solidarity. It refers to one of the most significant cultural events in southern Mali, the celebratory parties that mark life-cycle rites.
