With a name like Stab Virus, it would not be unreasonable to assume that the accompanying sound track would be abrasive and visceral. However, the opposite is true. While South African duo Siphe Tebeka and Makonwabe Bekwa aka Stab Virus do not come close to the traditional house sound of their home country, the title track is a pulsing, racing electronic disco groove, underpinned by a throbbing bass. On “Grease”, they opt for a tougher approach, but despite the prevalence of a brooding low end, eerie sirens and an insistent acid line, the track’s central rhythm is imbued with an infectiously funky sensibility.
