The latest cuts on Nsyde come from Christopher Rau in a fresh alias. T.R. “Early” Earl may be a new concern, but the sound is unmistakably Rau, albeit in a slightly rawer form. “Bad Conduction” is a dirty cut in the STL idea of the word, keeping the noises as grubby and sparse as possible while maintaining high levels of funk with a minimum of ingredients. “Turn Loose” has more of that Smallville-friendly melodic goodness in its bones, but it’s still marked out by distorted drums that bump and grind against each other gleefully. “Get Up At Noon” too features plenty of heart-warming soul, and the more simple and restrained drum set places it in decidedly familiar territory for any fans of Rau’s existing work.
