Under their Outboxx guise, Bristol twosome Jacob “Hodge” Martin and Matthew Lambert have made some of the most evocative, musically rich deep house of the last five years. Both of the original tracks showcased here feature the sensual vocals of regular collaborator Naomi Jeremy. “Rumours” sees Martin and Lambert smother crunchy snares and soft-touch kick-drums in trademark Rhodes riffs and spacey synth solos, while “So Strong” is an ultra-deep affair that makes great use of Lambert’s melancholic piano work. There’s also a sublime remix of “Rumours” from Detroit heavyweight Andras, who typically gives the track a jazzier, hazier feel.
