Surprisingly, it’s been three years since Lars Brodherr’s last EP, The Sun EP on True Romance. On Canvas Part 1 is a fine return, with the German producer laying down a trio of tasty deep house treats. One-time Naked Music regular Lisa Shaw guests on the slick, smooth and soulful flex of “Wanna Be Like You” (which is available in both full-length and Radio Edit versions), while “Connection” sees Brodherr layering up intoxicating, Tenaglia-like synth parts on the loose tech-house jam “Connection”. Arguably best of all, though, is “Kind of Culture”, whose sampled, Future Sound of London style freestyle vocals, music box melodies and lolloping groove combine in the most beautiful of ways.
