Closed Sessions is a wonderful exploration of techno and electro’s more reflective side. Forsaking functional dance floor tracks in favour of the road less travelled, it starts with Perseus Traxx’s “Sigil Magick”, an acid-soaked but deeper and more musical approach than is the UK producer’s wont. Profile and Mod Civil both deliver the kind of mid-tempo space techno that D5 is known for, with the former’s “”This Is The Game We Play” standing out. The only hint at something harder comes in the shape of Pablo Mateo’s “Closed Session” and Stanley Schmidt’s stripped back electro drums, but even on these more rhythm-based contributions, there is an atmospheric undercurrent.
