Now very much a global concern, Dekmantel still remain strong to their local Amsterdam roots as evidenced on this new EP from Awanto 3. Steven Van Hulle is arguably one of Dutch electronic music’s unsung heroes, with a long history of production work dating back to time in Rednose Distrikt alongside Aardvarck and Kid Sublime. Van Hulle’s been working as Awanto 3 for the past six years, racking up music for Rush Hour and Dekmantel. Fans of his work will recognise the 13 minute deep burning stomper “Pregnant”, which originally featured as part of Dekmantel’s 5 year anniversary compilation series. They’ve wisely revisited the track, giving it centre space on the EP with a fresh Awanto 3 cut. Don’t skip over the closing Daring Edit of “Star Butchers” either, it’s a thing of beauty.
