Born and raised as a dancer in the East Bay Area of California (USA) Coflos creative foundation has been deeply rooted in the movement of Bay Area club dance and its powerful influences taken from the AfroBrazilian martial art Capoeira. Growing up his mentors and influences were community leaders that existed both within the house music club communities as well as the Bay Area Capoeira communities. For Coflo the movement and music of house and Capoeira always intersected with grace and beauty. This intersection has inspired Coflo to create his first album O Berimbau. As a practicing/studying Capoeirista Coflo was given the opportunity to work with two of his own masters of Capoeira Mestre Recruta and Mestre Acordeon on Mestre Recrutas first Capoeira music album (Berimbau Chorou). From this project Mestre Recruta graciously allowed Coflo to use whatever recordings he desired for remix recreation or inspiration to create his own original songs. Many of the songs from this project are indeed recreations of the original project by Mestre Recruta. The rest of the songs were all written from a single recording track of a Berimbau. This writing occurred wether the Berimbau was present in the final version of the song or not. The Berimbau (a bowed single string percussive instrument) is to be consider the spirit or Axe of the Capoeira Jogo (game of Capoeira). With the same respect this project O Berimbau is named in context from the very same spirit that helped to write it. O Berimbau delivers a mixture of cross over traditional Capoeira rhythms and music with that of todays contemporary deep and afro house sounds. There are songs that were created purely for listening and day dreaming enjoyment as well as others designed to inspire the club dance cyphers. The final song of the album is an instrumental song done in the style of contemporary Capoeira rhythms for the Roda (where Capoeiristas play the game of Capoeira). The album is a story of respect and gratitude for Coflos Mestres and all of those that have carried on the traditions of Capoeira as well as house music and there respective cultures everywhere. Coflo would like to say: Thank you to Mestre Acordeon Mestra Suelly Mestre Ra and Mestre Recruta for allowing me to constantly remix the art and culture of Capoeira. Also for being such great examples of passion dedication and quality humans. Thank you Mestre Recruta for allowing me to be such a huge part in your original project and gifting me the recordings and inspiration to create this album; this would not exist without you my brother. Thank you to the capoeirsitas dancers DJs and house music producers in the Bay Area community for your inspiration and support in all of my artistic endeavors. Thank you to Sifa and Offering Recordings for your massive support in this project and an extra huge thank you for your continued cultivation of quality music world wide. Thank you to my best friend and wife Tsunami for your relentless support inspiration encouragement and love.
