Moving on from his split cassette with Opal Tapes don Basic House, Metrist is handed debut solo honours on Bishop’s Black Opal splinter hub with This Is For Sore Is Just There. Throughout the offering, Metrist constructs uncompromising, oblique arrangements from the harsh, charred remains of bass music, noise and techno – all processed with the delinquent, anarchist Opal Tapes aesthetic in check. Opener ‘Petrol Arses’ pairs nonsensical robotic ramblings to deep bass tremors and shrill hi-freq, followed by the anxious, air-raid sirens of ‘Sometimes Rubix Cubes’ and the dub-laden, Heron-esque abyss of ‘Sundried Man’. Maintaining the visceral ordeal, ‘Knights Of The Templar, Here Comes Neil’ continues to stalk the most dismal expanse with its broken, glitch-infused shuffle, whilst the brutal, effervescent electronics of the cheerily titled ‘That Prick I Hate’ round off a fine addition to this ever-reliable label.
