Under his Offshore alias, Scottish beatmaker Ewan Robertson has long been heralded as a talent to watch. Here, he delivers his debut album for Big Dada – over a year behind schedule. Arguably, it’s been worth the wait, because Bake Haus is an album overflowing with ideas. Mixing organic instrumental textures with odd electronic themes and shuffling, post-dubstep rhythms, it sits somewhere between Planet Mu-ish experimentalism, HudMo-ish beat science and the curious diversions once favoured by Boxcutter/Sepalcure-era Hotflush Recordings releases. Naturally, it’s hard to pin down, but more pertinently it’s actually really rather good. Recommended.
