Swedish producer HNNY has risen to prominence over the last couple of years, followed a superb series of self-released 12″ singles on Puss, plus impressive EPs for Let’s Play House and Local Talk. Here, he pops up on new label Yummy with a delightfully simple but deliciously playable single-sided release. “Surf Dude” places a baggy, Balearic guitar loop on top of a chunky, shuffling rhythm, and works it impeccably throughout, dropping in and out, adding filters, and so on. There’s not much too it, but it works brilliantly, coming on like a lost Mark E jam from his early Balearic period. There’s no finer praise than that.
