Resonance Records has always been a fine purveyor of eclectic house sounds. As renowned for fostering new talent as they are for featuring more renowned members of the scene, theirs is an ethos that’s indicative of their own growing stature in the game. Their latest offering, RR016 displays these twin talents with some distinction. A V/A package that’s been released with the upcoming BPM Festival in mind, the ‘BPM Sampler’ sees a host of the label’s favourite producers return to the fold. First up is wAFF, as he displays his mercurial talents once more thanks to ‘’Space InvadaZ’’, an intricate slice of bubbling, atmospheric house music that’s brimming with beguiling but catchy hues. Julien Sandre & Raffa FL then team up for ‘’Paranoid’’, a track that starts off on a sinister tip but soon makes way for a jovial bounce. Lighthearted but discerning, it’s devastating in its own relentless and unflinching way. Cera Alba – a man who’s enjoyed great success on Resonance of late thanks to his Renegade Nightclub EP – then perks up with ‘’Acidwave’’, a track that tips its hat off to old-school pastures. Scrupulously produced and exciting from beginning to end, it’s undoubtedly one of the EP’s finest moments. Dale Howard’s bass-heavy approach then works wonders on ‘’Right Now’’, before label owners The Horsey Brothers combine majestically for ‘’Permission’’, a delicate groover that features moments of textured house and garage-inspired basslines alike. Lastly, Casual Affair give the package another added dimension thanks to ‘’Push The Night’’, a gorgeous track that marries pop vocals with contemporary 4/4 aesthetics. Produced with a Balearic tinge, it comes at just the right time too.], as we begin to look forward to the new year. And on this basis, 2014 is set to be just as kind to Resonance as 2013 was.
