How do you stay true to your own sound without repeating yourself? How do you free yourself from the burden of wild expectations? Ultimately, how do you create a difficult second album that bucks the trend and sounds at least as fresh and enduring as the first? Rather than searching for answers to all these questions, Douglas Greed ploughs headlong into his second BPitch Control LP Driven, leaving needless doubts for dust in his rear-view mirror. Just keep on going! Someone else can do the soul-searching, he prefers to dedicate his heart and mind to new tracks.In any case, he was never short of passion or ideas. Douglas Greed has always been driven, and his nature rarely allows him to remain in one place on the genre map for too long. With a musical upbringing ranging from hip hop jams and drum’n’bass parties to the darker avenues of pop à la Joy Division, Depeche Mode or Radiohead, his recent years as a producer and live act have always involved thinking far beyond the usual framework of techno and house. The results of these thought processes, always incorporating the hours away from the dance floor, have already been laid bare on his debut album KRL (Freude am Tanzen) and singles for labels including Infiné, Acker and Gigolo.Driven continues seamlessly in this vein with eleven tracks as rich in variety as they are in detail. With its HQ in rural Germany – Rockets & Ponies is a coterie for the outsiders – those etoo strange for the normal business with an ethos that fosters freedom of expression, experimentation and an avant-garde approach. So who better to present a remix package of works by Jazz luminary Wolfgang Haffner that includes Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer, Nightmares on Wax, Acid Mondays and label padrone Timo Maas. Prolific doesnt quite cover Haffners creative output. With a career that spans over 30 years beginning in the German and French Jazz Ensemble and moving on to collaborative works with the likes of Chaka Khan, Bill Evans and Roy Ayres Haffner has appeared on over 350 recordings. The selected material within this package is taken from his latest album eHeart Of The Matter released through The ACT Company in 2013 – eMelodia, eLuna and eBing are twisted, stretched and reformed by the eminently prestigious roster of remixers. First in is Ricardo Villalobos – an exalted genius and champion of freedom of expression with previous releases on Perlon, Playhouse, Cadenza and Cocoon who pairs up with regular studio partner Max Loderbauer for two wonderfully elongated, no-holds-barred dissections of eBing and eMelodia. Loderbauer himself, as a master of audio design, injects experience assimilated from sharing his studio with Tobias Freund and together the pair opt for their regular method of developing tracks on modular machines using no overdubbing or multitrack mixing. Next up, previous collaborator with Haffner himself, Nightmares on Wax steps in with a typically balmy, Rhodes-heavy revision of eLuna. The longest ever serving artist on Warp Records opts for signature dosages of Dub, Soul and Jazz that hes perfected and refined over his long and illustrious career. And who better to offer an alternative take on eLuna than Rockets & Ponies co-founder Timo Maas. Following up his eLifer LP and his eTantra and eArticulation EPs, Maas steps in with his brash and physical reworking of eLuna that he creatively re-images into a billowing beast. In doing so he further substantiates his own left-field productions and indeed, Rockets & Ponies is an entirely unique and creative experiment capable of producing incredible results.” Also included are coequal space cadets Acid Mondays (Negghead and Lex Wolf) who beam a unfurled and twisted transmission into the package over a 10 minute work-out of eBing. We are excited to welcome UK talent Ridney back to Great Stuff with a track that was designed to take roofs off and dance floors apart!

“Raver” takes things down a peak-time route, featuring an in-your-face piano loop, a bouncy groove with big builds and heavy oldschool-esque drops. A funk fueled sub-bassline is placed below the mesmerizing vocal snippets. “Raver” is drawing on multiple dance floor genres and will find it’s home in a wide variety of sets.

The original version is accompanied by a remix pack that is out of this world. First off is Modek’s interpretation. The producer from Belgium follows the same approach as the original version, but provides his remix with a very special melody that rounds the song off perfectly.

Macromism is drawing heavily on a very modern style groove programming, the duo welds head-nodding straight beats to a deeper house-tinged bassline, while still letting the original piano madness jack all over the track.

Japanese Popstars are rounding off the package with feisty 909 percussions, a super bouncy bassline mirroring the infectious piano part as it molds itself into pure energy. The added manic sounds, patterns and colorful FX provide plenty of extra craziness.

The world of M_Rec refocuses on unassuming and dedicated dancefloor tracks with this release on the original Ltd. imprint by british producer and sound engineer Coefficient. Steering away from the saturated world of big and harsh techno, Coefficient concentrates on the craft of reviving and re-exploring archetypical mind-altering techno, rooted halfway between the American midwest and the heyday of british rave culture. The opening ‘Subsurface’ takes advantage of a groovy refrain to showcase uplifting drum programming and shadowy soundscapes. A great set opener to put the room in the right mindset. Things get a little darker with ‘Tesseract’. While the intricate patterns and basslines play the integral part in the track, there are intriguing melodies interplaying to make things sexier and affectively trippy. On the flip side, EP title track ‘Blood Red’ is a more maximal experiment, definitely meant to shake things up. Throughout this joint the synths get bigger and state-inducing, while the bass drum keeps things forward driving. It’s a traditional loop-driven track that belongs in the apex of a proper techno set. Closing track ‘Point of Departure’ rediscovers British leftfield electronica and celebrates the early morning hours of outdoor raves. It’s a track dedicated to the last few people standing, rich of melody and delays.
