Budget Cuts: Records & Tapes is proud to introduce its very first full length LP from Brooklyn’s own Jon G. “Sorting Through Some Things” is a work of art drawing from a variety of influences to create a beautiful patchwork collage of ambient, downtempo, and house.

The project is a deep and expansive sonic journey through uncertain times evoking strong emotions of hope and change. “Sorting Through Some Things” is not only a showcase of Jon’s ability to build original sounds, but also to manipulate and recontextualize samples beyond recognition. Recorded over a span of two years during times of immense personal change, listeners are given the rare opportunity to intimately engage with Jon’s development as an artist. “Riding the Ferry” is inspired by early morning trips on the Staten Island Ferry, “1am” by late nights in Brooklyn Bridge, and “Loving You” by sunny afternoons in a warm apartment. This album undeniably captures the pulse of New York’s many rhythms and reminds us that if you love something, sometimes you must let it go.

Jon G hails from Lexington, Kentucky and began making beats on Fruity Loops while in high school. Jon’s focus shifted away from electronic music production to study classical piano while attending music school at the University of Louisville. Jon took a hiatus from music altogether in order to pursue a teaching degree. It wasn’t until he found himself living in Brooklyn, NY teaching sixth grade English that he rediscovered his passion for music.
