Crackshot UK garage meets musique concrète from the Diptera duo on Mana…
Like Demdike Stare’s Testpressing trax dragged backwards thru a briar patch, or Autechre doing 2-step with SKRS International, Diptera’s vibes are totally deviant and a wicked pleasure to undergo. The original frameworks of late ‘90s UK 2-step are squashed, poked, dissolved and reconstituted in four amorphous ruinations, acutely described as taking “…a near electro-acoustic approach to the DNA, texture and pressure of UK Garage”.
A-side, that results in the flinty flail and parry of Silver and the detuned pirate radio transmission of Children’s Story, while the B-side comes from an avant-classical approach in the weightless plies and DSP trickery of F16, and Stem4bcc yields a fiercely fraught pitch of boggy subs and crackling 2-step patterns seemingly uprooted from ’99 and replaced, time sick and nuttier, into 2018.
