Fourteen years after the first instalment, Dufflebag Recordings serve up a second volume of The Love Safari by American Wally Callerio. The concept for the series is to put out music that is inspired by late nineties deep house from Chicago, all mixed with some fresh modern vibes. It is an arty affair that offers something more lasting than standard club fare, and as such stands out from the crowd thanks to its timeless house styles. All the tracks here go their own way rather than paying heed to any trends and find Wally Callerio pushing the same sound he has since he first started in 1997. In the ensuing years he has released on Defected, Cajual Recordings, Classic, amongst many others, but here he is back on his own esteemed label. Quincy’s Groove kicks things off and is a collab with Chuck Daniels. It’s a nice and melodic house track stuffed with feel good and summery vibes and is a great opener. Figuring It Out is a fluid and funky jam with slick drums and synths and rich sound design really popping from the speakers. Got 2 Keep On is an instant classic with diva vocals, punchy kick drums and a party starting old school feel that is truly authentic. Poetry in Motion then gets deep and seductive with whispered vocals and warm chords sucking you in. Momentum gets elastic and slinky with more rich chords and heartwarming house vibes, and Audio graffiti shows off plenty of inventive ideas and clear studio techniques with its tribal percussion, wonky lead melody line and filtered vocal. Need The Most featuring Danette is another collab, this time with Jason Hodges, and is a loose, breezy, rump-wiggling jam before Ghost Song featuring Adrian Hibbs closes things out in futuristic style with multi layered vocals, pixelated synths and bumpy drums. All in all this is a fantastic album filled with fresh house styles and it is sure to provide both DJs and dancers with many great moments in the months ahead.
