Roel Funken makes his debut as Styk and uses Holland’s Shipwrec platform to do so. It’s one hell of a statement this album which fuses acid techno, digi-rave and electro with dubby, bass heavy sounds. Lead track “Zed-B” is an album highlight which peaks most with its fluttering hi-hats and white noise while falling well below sub-zero when it hits the troughs. There’s a world of ideas at play on Jpt-R which shine through on productions like “Bnc-T” and “Lod-T” while for the out-and-out absurd it’s all about “Jup-R”, “Hit-N” and “Hin-C” – seriously weird, scrambled and full of rave.
