Shed follows 2022’s Towards East album with an evocative work. The long player’s title is literal. It serves as a reminder of the German producer’s love of early 90s dance music, while also laying bare the album’s influences. For the most part, Rave Echoes inhabits a dreamy world where robust break beats underpin dreamy synths, swooning strings and scattered vocal samples – witness “Loot 25”, “Rave Predator” and the immersive “Password Techno Mix”. While there are a few exceptions to this approach – most notably on the tripped out techno on “Password Trance Mix” – the dominant soundtrack is atmospheric, as the spine-tingling “Taking You Home” so effortlessly demonstrates.
