Tales of Ordinary Madness, Exercise One’s second full-length, marks a decade of live techno explorations from the Berlin-based duo. Inspired by Charles Bukowski’s book of the same name, the album sees Marco Freivogel and Ingo Gansera in fine form, delivering a set of warm, riuch and enveloping techno cuts with a strong emphasis on atmosphere and texture. While there are confirmed dancefloor moments – see the toasty futurism of “Gatium” and the paranoid, late night acid of “Electric Glare” – for the most part Tales of Ordinary Madness exists on another plane, sitting somewhere between straight-up club fodder and home listening gear. Arguably, it’s the more subdued moments, such as the bubbling IDM of “Stay”, which really stand out.
