Every once in a while a work comes along to change one’s perception of a musical form. It is no exaggeration to say that Angoor will make anyone who hears it will revise their opinion of minimal house. There are tracks here that have nothing to do with our understanding of minimalism, like “Toddle”, a half heard vocal murmuring or the widescreen shanty that is “Quellla Suppplica Dagli Occhi”. Even when the album does catch a groove, it does so in the most unusual ways; the epic “Ballade Privae” is based on live drumming, “Wherein” is a droning, groove and “Randnummern” descends into a wild, gamelan-style exercise in freeform abandon.
