RAAR sound library begins its life with Maelstrom and Louisahhh! teaming up on Holy, a thundering super-groove cheekily sledge hammering your cranium to pieces, with bleeping, alien stabs cutting through the membrane further, while (presumably) Louisahhh!’s vocal observations that “this is Holy” add a further menacing tone to the track as it mines the farthest caverns of the soul.

Maelstrom is flying solo on follow up Peripheries and as far as dance music for outcasts goes, this is as far reaching as it gets. A blistering, jack hammer techno beat drives on as pained vocal tones create further uneasy atmosphere – eventually it explodes on the drop through thick subs and arresting FX flanking both of its sides.

Next up is Roijacker (a super trio of Dave Clarke, Black Asteroid and Mr Jones), with the original mix of Out of The Lights springing in tone but awash with diamond cut synth waves, shooting basslines and heavy effects sweeping past in a threatening fashion. All the while, distorted ambience and nuanced effects create an empowering stride, ready to challenge and take us on a journey through techno’s toughest terrain.

The next mix – amusingly titled “unsubscribe” – is less fluid and rolling, more jerky, jagged and roughly edged with razor sharp melodies and stomping, marching beats and double-claps, bringing a militant, tunnel-envisioned vibe to the EP.

Finishing off RAAR001 are two DJ specific tools, included for those looking for a further sound bank or library to plunder bridged samples from, including a beatless, vocalpella of Out of The Lights and a monotonous, repetitive Beatapella of Holy. A brilliant EP to christen the label and a late night trip into hands of some fine producers – plus it’s certainly not for the faint of heart.
