Given the respective recent outputs of Low Jack and D.K, you’d expect this first collaborative missive under the Slack DJ’s alias to be rather good. It is, of course, though it’s probably the most experimental release either producer has been involved with. Opener “Hoops” sets the tone, offering a befuddled trip through chopped-up, constantly changing leftfield techno territory – all beaten-up rhythms, dubbed-out electronics and odd noises. There’s a slightly more dreamy feel to “75011”, though it still sounds like it was recorded in a cement mixer full to the brim with sand and gravel. Flip for two takes on “Glasshouse Mountain”, where D.K’s gorgeous synthesizers are put through the ringer in the company of edgy, otherworldly rhythms and end-of-days effects.
