Belgium has given us great design, art and steak and chips. They’ve also given us some killer music too: from 2manyDjs and The Culture Club to New Beat – a particularly cool hybrid of Goth, acid house and EBM. Now Monolithe Noir are evoking memories of the black leather and slow beats of their ’80s ancestors via Berlin’s arty label KODX. There are four deep cuts of black electronic beats here, including the sinister, pounding droner “Le Saint Guidon” (turned into doomy hoover-techno by Max Dahlhaus), the intricate industrial of “Lets Work” and the almost ten minute-long haunted arpeggiation of Narval.
