After dropping two of last year’s smash EPs in collaboration with hometown homeboy Four Walls, Funkyjaws goes solo on Kolour LTD with four more slices of deep, underground house business. Flying in the face of geography, the Grodno maestro trades in a sound more akin to the US Midwest than the heartland of Belarus, and the groove is king on opening cut “Feel This Way.” Lively Rhodes licks spiral away above an infectious groove while sweeping strings and bright horns turn the temperature up to boiling point. On the A2, the “Party Train” carries us from the heart of the Motor City to Chitown as its discoid MPC groove gives way to a fizzing acid bassline. B-side opener “Acid Indie Club” might not be indie, but it’s certainly acid. While a slightly warped disco sample shimmers away in the background a resonated bass line buzzes and squelches over the stomping beat. After taking us to the very depths of the basement on the B1, Funkyjaws lets the light stream in for the finale, treating us to a good old fashioned terrace tonker in the form of “Sundown”. Funky guitar licks, bubbling live bass and chiming flute decorate a big filter house beat as memories of youthful summers flood back.
