Philly’s finest circuit scorchers return to Morphosis’ label with an iridescent new sound following an acclaimed trio of blackened noise/techno 12″s. Still improvised/hacked by fingers on modified hardware, for this outing they’ve replaced much of the atonal noise elements with glistening, dissonant hi-end bleeps and scything, glassy tones underpinned by rugged techno rhythms. The intrepid A-side ‘Vertia’ explores a unique dimension of sheer, shearing tones right on the brink of the pain threshold, whilst B-side ‘Tiled Eighths’ strobes spotlighting blips and chimes around a cavernous warehouse techno space until a denouement of rusted, rollicking industrial techno. Imagine Jason Lesscalleet remixing early Ø sides and you’ve got the idea. Recommended.

Downwards returns with Live From Tokyo, a 12″ housing some rare live material from the Regis and Surgeon project British Murder Boys. Conceived in 2002 as outlet for the British pair to take their brand of techno into ever more extreme sonic territory, British Murder Boys material surfaced over a series of 12″s on Downwards and Counterbalance before the project was put on hold around 2006. Having been coaxed back into working together by Liberation Technologies, further BMB material is due to arrive through the more familiar outlet of Downwards. Ahead of a full BMB retrospective, Live In Tokyo would seem to originate from the duo’s performance together in the Japanese city last year. Stylistically you can expect a cut of brattish, broken techno wedged between some feedback laden noises pieces.

This eighth Dystopian record presents the debut proper of label co-founder Alex Do. Before this he appeared on the one various artist EP alongside Rodhad, Felix K and Recondite, and it seems now is his time to shine. He does so by putting heavy emphasis on the synth work in his music and all three tracks are melodic and bright in tone which is quite the contrast to the previous releases of the label. Combine your favourite synthy elements of Mathew Jonson, Legowelt and Laurent Garnier with some good old fashion 909 techno and you have Alex Do’s Stalker.
